Anybody remember Garfield Watkins of Tenby? Used to run Dodges in similar colours to MDS hauling animal feeds from Avonmouth for Clynderwen Farmers and slag from Margam which he spread around Pembrokeshire.

Which model Dodge’s did they run Casey ? I can’t remember them.I used to haul slag out of Margam in 1969/70. Can’t remember all the lorries, half the time when those gits loosed the slag down that sock onto the body, you couldn’t see your own lorry.
Cheers Dave.
Hi, Dave,
He only ran four motors, I believe, but was quite well known in the area. Garfield drove an LAD-cabbed Dodge tipper with a 354 Perkins and the others were of a more modern vintage. I drove a four-wheeled tipper, there was a sixwheeler tipper and a three axle artic,. all fitted with V8 ■■■■■■■■■
Garfield was a really decent sort, always ready to get stuck in spreading slag & lime with his old Nuffield tractor. The spreader, of course, was loaded using the usual “Farmer’s Ramp”, two sleepers balanced on two old wheel rims. Elf & safety! If anyone happens to have photos- a long shot- the name on the doors was “W.G.Watkins”. Oh, yes, one other thing- Garfield’s wife was French and was reputed to have smiled once in 1954!

I remember using the sleepers and wheel hub method of ramping until one of Powells of Kington’s Bedford TK’s,had a ram go,smashing it through the sleepers and breaking the chassis. Can’t recall the chap you refer to Casey, but by the motors he had,he must have been in and out of Margam the same time as me.
Cheers Dave.
Must have been around that time, Dave. I had just got married and relocated to Tenby so it would have been early seventies I would think.
You would be OK for a job down Tenby now Casey, with the big road scheme from St Clears to Llanteg going on.Plenty of tipper driving down there.
Cheers Dave.

Very small as so do I.
There’s lovely.
I love it. Even enjoy the banter after the 6 nations. (I’m English).
Great place, matey. If I had my time over I don’t think I would come back from West Wales. Except to watch the rugby at Gloucester, of course!
Down around Newgale is one of the nicest parts of the UK.
Stop it! You’ll have me singing Men of Harlech in a minute!
How many West Wales Hauliers can you come up with old and new.
