Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Dave. I had to work Sunday night so I loaded my 6 wheeler for test 1st thing Monday morning and went off duty. We are a bit short of trucks at the mo.My 58 reg Man got side swiped coming out of the cones on the M5 roadworks by an armoured truck so thats at the repairers. Mike Roberts’s FH got hit in the front by the farmers telehandler in his yard but his was back last Wednesday.Mark

I had a letter about that, complete with a couple of lovely colour photos. :unamused:

It looks a bit of an odd accident, the pics seem to suggest you’re guy turned across and the armoured truck ‘T-Boned’ him. Pictures obviously lie and I’m not pointing fingers its just not clear from the pictures. The text seems to suggest that the banksman released him into the live lane. I have a real problem with banksmen, namely that they always pick the most useless (and often most stupid) member of the gang to be the banksman and they have no idea. This is often quite funny but can be dangerous. I was released into a live lane in Liverpool last year and was lucky the car coming down my blindside anchored on.

Sounds like your having a rough old time of things, hope it picks up and your luck improves soon.

hiya,
Dave one of the earliest motors i drove when i was 21 circa 1957 was a forerunner of the above Maudslay it was a Mikado produced in 1939 pulling a trailer, i did’nt reign there very long the thing nearly killed me and even at that young age, and ex-forces fit, I was’nt man enough for that thing, though it was in original condition and really well maintained even had to use hand signals which were still part of the driving test in those days but winkers were starting to become the norm, gee whiz now I do feel old.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry,
Sounds a hard moter to drive. Used hand signals when I the driving test on moterbike and car,the cars had winkers, but hand signals were still part of the test in 1964 for moterbike and 65 when I took the car test. A couple of Austin lorries on S W Brisbane whoI drove for that were new in 1964 didn’t have winkers as they were an extra then, not that they went far, they were on hire to the County Council highways, and a couple of older blokes drove them.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave
Good pic’s again mate, and as I said before those Morgan boys have got some nice kit. A bit tight in that garage, that would sort the men out from the boys getting them in and out of there.

cheers

John.

Plenty of experiece with the Morgan Brothers John,he’s got another in the other side as far as I know. They must take a lot of time to clean them up for the shows.
Cheers Dave.

Roy Morgans Ford and Foden parked up.
