Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

This is John Morgan from Bucknell Shropshire, known to all his mates as JET. John is pictured here at the start of his long lorry driving career.Originally from nearby Leintwardine,he is pictured at 17 with his first lorry,a Bedford of Alick Archer’s.
One of three lorry driving brothers,John now aged 78 still drives on the vintage circuit all over the UK.

Hi Harry,
Spent this afternoon talking to John JET Morgan,he is as enthusiastic about the job as if he was just starting.Ive known him for years, but have never had a long chat with him before. He has got some fantastic tales to tell about his days on the timber and also as a long distance artic driver.I think he might get himself a laptop,so hopefully he will come onto these threads.
Cheers Dave.

John and Roy Morgan pulled up for a teabreak. Roy pictured next to his outfit with a metal furnace on the trailer.

John Morgan had this ERF new in 1970,seen here in B & J Davies timber yard.

John JET tells me,that this was a hybrid that B & J Davies built for loading timber, the front end is a Crossley.

This bit of kit was used to pull timber out. Jet tells me it had a Vickers supercharged engine.

Another machine in action.

hiya,
Makes you wonder what happened there Dave, doesn’t look much of a hill and not much weight on that particular load that old rig should have had enough brakes to stop that size of load, there’ll only be about 12/14 tons max on it.
thanks harry long retired.

Don’t know Harry. John told me a lot of things about the firm this afternoon,he possibly did say what happened. I just remembered it happened at Burton On Trent, they were quite a big firm in their day,as with them all they had their mishaps.
Cheers Dave.

I blame it on t’trailer lad Harry, get the knotted rope out
Nice old pictures Dave,thanks.

I might be wrong but i think the story is that an army gun trailer broke away and hit the Foden.
