Dave the Renegade:
Several of the operators this way have got rid of the six wheelers and gone up to eight wheelers, the six doesn’t pay is what a few are saying. The few four wheelers are capped to 14 ton which makes them more viable than a six at 16 ton.
This is exactly whats happened up here in North Wales. They are not interested in anything except 8-leggers in their own colours. 14tonne for 4x2’s will only last until they become popular. Nobody wants 6-wheelers, although I feel that they are an excellent compromise of payload and manooverability…although I would say that wouldn’t I?!

hiya,
As you say Dave there’s no flies on me. only the droppings where they’ve alighted.
thanks harry long retired.
It’s a wonder there are any flies left Harry after the cold winter, have got a few in my transit, bloody things come in through the vents at the back. Will have to keep a resident spider in there.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Hammer,
Missed your post, don’t think the four wheelers will increase down here,as they only capped the neser one’s from last autumn onwards, some with older vehicles packed up,a couple complained and got theirs back to the 14 ton capped load.
As you say a six wheeler is a useful compromise, can get in places where an eight will not. You probably have more tight places in North Wales than down this way,as you run a six you are obviously going to champion them. You never know theings could go full circle and yours could be back in pole position.
Cheers Dave.

Thats a rare sight you ve got there Dave , a Nolan truck stopped. Most of the time he keeps a fire lit under their backsides to keep them moving !
Thats true Fan,they don’t hang about, they always run four wheeler units, don’t know if 44 ton isn’t legal in Ireland or if it’s the type of work they do that doesn’t require max weight.
Cheers Dave.

44T is legal over here Dave but Jimmy does a lot of light work. Theres a lot of his units and trailers parked up at the moment , things are quiet.
Hi Fan,
Sorry mate, didn’t know you were from Ireland. I used to go to Pembroke Dock twice a week for a few years, always plenty of Nolan’s coming in or out,had a look at their park at the Docks, they run about 450 units with twice as many trailers so Ive heard, with the state of things, not surprised they haven’t a lot of work. I have a nephew working in Cork he says things are the same as here, not so good.
Cheers Dave.
I m told Nolan parked up 150 units at christmas . His yard is only an hour from me and there s always lots of trailers there , but he used to do a lot of storage on wheels so so you cant tell how he s doing just by looking in the yard.
