Hi Harry,
I think there are some tippers out today, usually one of the quarries opens, then the blokes have tuesday off. It’s a very wet day here, would have gone out otherwise,my camera person has popped to see her folks in her car,so me and the dog are in charge. Supposed to be a bit better on sunday,we may have a ride out then,if I talk nice to her,she will bring her camera.Have a good easter yourself Harry.
Cheers Dave.

Hi legion,
Quite obvious why you saw Pauls wagons,he has a high regard for yor firm, also know of a few Volvo operators rate them as well. I live just across the valley from the quarries, used to drive for Pauls dad years ago.
Cheers Dave.

We used to work the Good Friday and have Tuesday off Dave. At the moment though there isn’t much work at all, one of my old mates has a P reg Foden 6 wheeler and I do occasional repairs for him, well his starter motor packed up on monday so I popped him one on (which cost him around £250 for the motor) and yesterday he had his Insurance renewal that had gone through the roof! All he has worked this week is a load of stone to Stafford on monday, stone from Buxton to Middleton (Manchester) on wednesday and stone from another Buxton quarry to Oldham yesterday. Three loads of stone all week, £100 in diesel plus a starter motor, I was supposed to reline a brake for him but he has decided to park the truck up and decide what to do with it. Not worth anything at that age, but what’s the point of running stone around for next to nothing, even Tarmac’s O/D’s are doing very little more. Still Gordon at Number 10 says we are through the recession so things must be improving!

Hi Pete,
Sorry to hear of your mate’s troubles, thats the thing with lorries, large vehicles large bills. The quarries this way are very busy, have been for a few weeks now, they were quiet before christmas and with the bad weather in the new year, but have a lot of work at the moment. Don’t know if some of the rates are that good,a few have been cut recently also there was a 2.5% cut last october,a bit rough when everything else has gone up. Several of the operators this way have got rid of the six wheelers and gone up to eight wheelers, the six doesn’t pay is what a few are saying. The few four wheelers are capped to 14 ton which makes them more viable than a six at 16 ton. There are artics from everywhere here, some backloading, some hauling to local jobs, also a lot of eight wheelers from other area’s here as well. They have a big road scheme between Builth Wells and Newbridge On Wye just started, also a lot of chicken sheds going up all over Mid Wales and a Tesco site as well as a lot of Tarmac on go.Could be a different story in a few months time, the local hauliers will probably have enough to keep them going, but the others helping out might not be needed.
I think the recession will still be here for quite a while whatever Gordon and all the rest of the politicians would like us to believe.
Cheers Dave.
Hi Dave , has the price of the quarry’s products come down by 2.5% ? cheers kevin.
