dessert driver:
Hi boys
While your on the subject of merchants we used to deliver seed potatos from Ireland to a place in Leominster. If you came in from the north over the crossings round the sharp left, past the car park, round the sharp right and it was there on the left before the lights.I note it’s been gone a few years now, anyone remember the name?
Regards Keith.
Hi Keith,
The name was Hintons,as you say long gone, used to run blue lorries, only a few.
Cheers Dave.
Hi boys
Dave don’t remember any trucks only that there was never any room to unload, used to have to put them on a elevator and they stacked them in the warehouse. come to think about it we used to deliver empty potato bags there as well.
Regards Keith
Hi boys
Thinking about Leominster does anyone remember the blacksmith over the crossing round the left bend on the left that had the job of repairing the iron railings along the A49 at Berrington Hall. It took him months,@1975/6.Even before he had finished someone had gone through them again a job like painting the Forth road bridge
Also about that time in that area there used to be an old chap that walked up and down the main road in the village of Ashton, even 5/6 in a morning. I nearly had him a time or two often wonder if someone did get him.
Regards Keith
Hi Keith,
I remember the blacksmith, there is somone running a business there now. About five years ago or maybe more there was a bad accident in Ashton, two lorries had a head on,one a milk artic tanker and a local artic that had just set off from Leominster had a head on,both burst into flames and the drivers sadly were both killed,it also burnt a cottage down.
I was coming through Bredenbury on my way back from Bromyard and I could see all this black smoke going up from there, thought it was a combine on fire or a farm fire, didn’t realise until I got to Leominster and saw the police blocking the A49 thay it was a smash.
Cheers Dave.
Saw this nice four wheeler Foden with a brick grab,on the A456 at Little Hereford.

Hi dave
I remember that I stopped in that layby just north a couple of weeks later and the road traffic investigators were there. They were hoping to get the road layout changed on that bad bend, there was even talk of a bypass but heard nothing since.
Regards Keith
Hi Keith,
They have got a 40 mph limit through there now, also some red traffic calming patches. There is one of those signs that lights up saying slow down as you approach from the Ludlow side into that bend,it’s always been a notorious blackspot, can’t see them getting a bypass,it’ all national trust ground on the Leominster side belonging to Berrington Hall the big place with the lake on the right hand side with the railings, the big parkland was designed by Capability Brown a famous landscape architect for the knobs years ago,in the 16th century.
Cheers Dave.

Hi John,
The two drivers involved in the smash at Ashton should have known the road, one was a local driver, the other with the milk tanker was from West Wales. I would think he was a trunker,so probably used the road regular, can’t remember what the inquest revealed,I think because they were so badly burnt, they couldn’t get anny evidence of any mechanical failure. It was a sad job.
Cheers Dave.

) called the Pitstop,it’s a good place, got several pics there about ten days ago. About two pages back on this thread,or it can be seen on the transport cafe web page.
