Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Another view of A E Gough & Sons, smashed up Daf.

Hi
No wonder there are no 28/3300 DAFs left treating then like that shame.
John

Another pic of an A E Gough, ERF, they ran several artics and rigids of this make in the nineties. This one was driven by Simon Gough.

hiya,
Not into new stuff Dave, but Goughy’s pair sure look swell could have settled for one of them but no tipper, tanker or cattle trailers, curtainsiders or low loaders would be acceptable but preferably a flat with good ropes and sheets, ready to roll. PS back a page 2008 Hereford show motors.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry,
They had quite a good truck show at Hereford, but didn’t have one this year, probably down to the lack of money, due to the credit crunch etc.Gough’s run twelve artics and two eight wheelers. Mid Wales is a long way off a moterway,so the long distance hauliers are at a disadvantage. There are a few still doing flat work, with a bit of roping and sheeting.
Cheers Dave.

Hi boys

Dave the Renegade:

Pictured at Hereford truck show,July 2008. I think the 53 reg has been replaced now. More older lorries tomorrow.

Dave I’ve been down your way this afternoon and meet three of these one 09, one 54 reg and I was too busy looking after my mirrors to get the other reg. They all looked tidy but the speed they were going at they must be on bonus
I kept looking out for you Dave but no look.

Hi Keith,
Haven’t been out and about the last couple of weeks,if I am its either in my silver sprinter,or an old red transit, which you won’t miss, its got RENEGADE in the screen, with twig and blue Hella truck lights. Goughs don’t waste any time, most are top of the range moters like yours.
Cheers Dave.

I followed you into Craven arms about 5 oclock.

Tonyb

Hi boys
Tonyb I hope I was behaving myself…I was pushing on abit I had picked up that dumper and track machine from Builth Road north of Builth wells and had to get to Church Streton before the site closed, to collect a JCB 3cx. What were you in?

Regards Keith

Hi Keith,
I see now why you met a few of Gough’s, if you were up that way, they have two eight wheeler tippers on for Hanson, who have a quarry at Llanelwedd by Builth, also the artics load out of there. Now I know what you drive,I will give you the lights if I meet you.
Cheers Dave.

Hi boys
Dave a lot of people flash and wave some even smile, others seem to be muttering somthing
All the years I’ve been driving around that area today was the first time I had cut across from Builth to Leominster on the A481 through Hundred House, always going north and south somehow. That bear at the junction with the A44 brought back memeries of Turkey Norm would know what I mean…Diden’t I read somwhere that you live near Kington?

Regards Keith.

Hi Keith,
I live opposite the Gore Quarry,as you came into Walton on the A44,you will see a B road signed for Knighton. I live a mile and a half,up that road. Draw a line between Kington and Knighton, then another between Presteigne and New Radnor. I live where the lines would cro ss. The Bear is at the Forest Inn pub on Radnor Forest. I drove lorries with the landlords dad.
Cheers Dave.

I don’t know much about this Leyland Clydesdale of A E Gough’s,pictured here in their yard. They had a newer V reg which I remember, which was driven by long serving driver Terry Hicks, now retired.

A E Gough’s Leyland Clydesdale after it had been in an argument.

Another of A E Goughs Daf artics pictured at their yard.

Four of A E Gough’s artics, all looking clean and tidy, lined up in the yard.
