That is one awesome crane on that Scania.

Pontrilas sawmills, from Herefordshire, used to have one on a Foden in the eighties, they ran it like that with two artics along, the driver John Powell from Knighton loaded the others then his own, they ran into Dovey forest quite a lot, also Scotland.

Seddon flatbed parked at Hedley Simcock’s yard at Kington.I think this lorry was run hauling hay and straw, by Ivor Wozencroft from Whitton near Knighton.

ERF B series and a Bedford TK parked at Hedley Simcock’s yard.

Leyland Constructer parked in the yard.

Leyland Freighter tipper with Hiab, used by Hedley on numerous types of work.

ERF eight wheeler tipper coming off Anglesey, over the Britannia Bridge.

Hi Dave,
Just come across a couple of good old Welsh lorries for your thread, do you remember seeing these on any of your travels.

And the ones I was trying to remember a few months back.

Enjoying this thread very much, some great scenery as well, I’ll have to make time to visit the area myself again.

Paul.

Hi Paul,
Nice pics. I remember the article about W G Jones of Tregaron, don’t see their lorries this way. I drove a Dodge like that years ago,pre turbo. R A Owen are a bit nearer and I do see a bit more of them about, used to see them more a few years back, when Dalgetty had their mill in Knighton

This ERF has been parked up in the corner of R A OWEN,S yard for years looking very sorry for itself. Was still there a month ago last time i passed

Norman Evans lent me this photo of a line up of Tilcon Fodens.Norman thinks it was taken at Oulton Park. Norman worked at the Gore Quarry for fifty years, most of them as weighbridge clerk.

Hi jonmea,
Have seen it there myself, thought of stopping to take some pics, but its usually late when we pass, but will try and get some again.
Cheers Dave

Another pic lent to me by Norman Evans. Tilcon line up,with the drivers. Are you among these, Pete Windrush?.

Another from Norman.
Pictured here is Clem Davies driving the loading shovel. Clem was a big mate of mine,we organised and ran country and western dances for 23 years, sadly he passed away suddenly earlier this year, here he is loading the Mann-Abell Albions at the Gore Quarry in about 1970.

Elwyn Mills in his Aveling Barford Dumper being loaded,at the face in the Gore Quarry. Elwyn is still going strong, now in his eighties and regularly seen on his bike on the A44.

Aveling Barford Dumpers working in the Gore Quarry in the late sixties. The Gore along with Dolyhir Quarry, was at that time owned by Mann-Abell.In the valley in the background is where I live.

Fantastic shot Dave mate ! :sunglasses:

Surely those S80/3s all had to come from several quarries and plants ? Too many to be based at one location, surely ! Also noticed a few S39s in the centre, brilliant stuff !

I’d have loved to have stood in a street afterwards when all those wagons were driven away heading for home. What a sight that must have been ! :sunglasses:

Hi Bonkey,
They brought them to Oulton Park for the Photo shoot I would think. Don’t think there is a quarry there, only the racing circuit.
Cheers Dave.

Copy that good buddy, but what I meant was I bet all the wagons wouldn’t have been based at one quarry or plant.

Bet they were all told to meet up at Oulton and they came from various locations. Anything up to maybe six.

Hi Bonkey,
Yes I see what you mean, don’t know if anyone from the Gore were there. I will ask Norman, they had about a dozen Fodens here, with quite a few in the Forest of Dean.
Cheers Dave.
