A slightly peripheral one these days…
This is an ERF LV new, as a tractor unit, to Lawley Brothers Haulage of Church Stoke.
After several years it was stretched and AEC Matador axles and transfer box were added, along with the crane.
It’s Gardner 180 powered and still with its original David Brown 6 speed box.
Still in use with Joseph Lawley and fully road legal…
Great pics Steve. Will try and think of some interesting places with old gear in this area. Will pm you if I think of a suitable one.
Cheers Dave.
Scania bulk tipper on the A49 near the Travellers Rest Pub,north of Craven Arms.
that would be great Dave
Still keen to meet Paul Griffiths when he has a minute!
Paul is going back behind the wheel next week Steve,so I can’t say when would be a good time, possibly a sunday,he is usually about. Give a ring in a week or so.
When you look over a gate in the Welsh Hills you expect to see a “Foden” six wheeler tipper,by the side of the A44 at Ponterwyd.
at Tony Lewis’ yard today…

Hi Steve,
Did he tell you the sad tale about the constructer. It was Ian his son’s lorry, who sadly over twenty years ago drowned whilst on holiday,he was hit by a freak wave as he lay on a concrete breakwater.
Waste paper wagon and drag, seen on the A5, below Shrewsbury.
Dave - he didn’t tell me but I knew via someone who knew Tony years ago.
He was a good guy and put up with my nosing about!

Hi Steve,
Tony is a true lorry man,as you probably know,he has worked hard, when I worked with him hauling out of the Gore Quarry, in the late sixties and early seventies,he was very orgaised,he only ran two lorries,bt they were nearly always loaded both ways, stone or tarmac from up here and sand or gravel from Hereford back this way.
Saw this Scania on the A483/A5 near Chirk Airfield.
One of Conwy haulier Roland Young’s Scania artics coming up the A49,by the Lazy Trout Transport Cafe, near Church Stretton.
One of Hicks of Newport, South Wales, on the A44 Kington bypass.
Oswestry Shropshire, cold storage specialist Pentons Volvo FH reefer seen on the A5 between Oswestry and Shrewsbury.
Hi Dave, Great site keep the pics coming !
I found one of my pics was of the Lawley’s ERF that Steve posted earlier, taken in 1975 when she was still an artic, in the layby at Churchstoke.
Regards

Hi MaggieD,
Good to see those pics. Churchstoke has certainly altered since 1975,with more houses and Tuffin’s treble the size. Its great to see these okd pics of long gone firms on this forum, from all parts of the UK,a lot of my own pics are modern day lorries. I have got several people I know hunting more old one’s out for me,but not got any to post at the moment, only the recent one’s.
Cheers Dave.

Following on from fryske and MaggieD’S pics, here’s one of Barry Morgan’s from Bleddfa, near Knighton Scania’s,seen at Queenshead near Oswestry on the A5. Barry runs two Scania timber wagons,he drives the one,and his son the other.
