Yes, I think so, nice bloke, pleased to hear he is well. What was the name of the transport firm from Bucknell that went under around 1989 / 1990, he was using the ERF at the time and the receivers tried to seize her.I still laugh telling my lads about going to Southam on my first ever drive in the ERF. Eaton twin split (pre-select) box, and no-one told me how they worked. I bet there were a few folk cursed me on the way there that morning when I had to keep coming to a stop to start off again
. Plucked up courage to ask at a butty wagon and from then on she flew
6 months later they closed the agricultural division and I moved onto pastures new.Colin
Hi Ploughman,
The firm from Bucknell was probably Tommy Edwards, had red lorries and did haulage for McConnells or Bensons. Atki Dave, probably knows more about it than me.
Cheers Dave.
Yes that was Tommy Edwards, didn’t he used to run out of Woolleys old yard? Des Owen took over the the Bensons work after that. He was also from Bucknell and had red Volvo f7’s to start, the livery based on the old Woolleys colours.
Dave Renegade might know this- Did Tommy Edwards start up again under North Hereford(shire) transport name?
Bensons shut the end of may this year, but only the heaters side was left.

Yes remeber Des Owen but no knowledge of what happened to Tommy Edwards. After all the Ag boys were laid off I went back for about 6 months to sort out part built machines and service etc. Haven’t been back there for a long time even though I only live 8-9 miles away.

Hi PLoughman an Dave,
I think Tommy Edwards ran out of B & J Davies yard, same as Des Owen, I could be wrong, I remember Dave Licence driving a four wheeler MAN for him for a short while after he came of continental work. Its quite a while since he packed up, don’t know if started up again or not, didn’t really know the bloke, only of him.
Cheers Dave.

Here’s one of the original Welsh Border Tipper Operators. S W Brisbane of Knighton ran tippers long before WW2, this S type Bedford, with a six cylinder petro engine. New in the early 1950’s, driven by my old mate John Cross, who lent me these photo’s. John is already featured on this thread. He has kindly sorted some more old pics for me.Dave, Is this photo taken on Market Street, Knighton?
it looks like it is parked outside John’s parents (my great grand mothers) house.
Hi Dave,
Took John’s pics back tonight, asked him about this one, he lived at 34 Market St, his Mum and Dad at 35, or vice versa, then he moved to Station Road in later years, before moving to where he is now.
Cheers Dave.
A nice Scania of TRANSTHOMAS of Bristol, having a break at the Snack Van A438 Letton. The Driver said he would be looking on here the weekend, here she is mate, Thanks, Dave.
One of Richard Read’s new moters, stopped for a brew at Letton A438, on his way to Dolyhir Quarry to load chippings.
Couple of Chris Hazel’s lorries in his yard at Wooferton, the mixer in this pic, has a demountable body and alternates as a tipper.
Chris Hazel’s eight wheeler Daf tipper pictured in his yard, next to it is the tipper body that swaps with the mixer.
Nice Daf at the Letton Snack Van layby, on the A438 Hereford–Brecon road.
Not a tipper, but its a tidy moter.
One of Bayliss Brothers Scania six wheeler tippers, seen at Sarnesfield cross roads. This is one of two identical sixes the Brothers operate out of Strinds/Dolyhir Quarries for Tarmac.
One of K T & A Williams of Llandrindod Wells Volvo’s on th A44 Floodgates near Kington. This operator runs mainly on timber haulage, out of the Forests of Mid Wales, with about eight lorries.
One of long time haulier Burgoynes of Lyonshall, don’t think we have had a Foden of theirs on here. This one is on the A44 at Dunfield, near Kington. They have done a hundred years in road haulage, still run by the Burgoyne family. We will never know if they achieve another hundred.

You are quite right Steve, they still have some in the back of their yard. I will try and get some pics of them. They don’t buy many new lorries, they tend to buy second hand, although the Renaults they run I think they did buy new…
Cheers Dave.
I will be posting some more old one’s on here in a couple of weeks. We have a few of Roland Young of Conwy wagons coming into the Gore Quarry lately for chippings.I haven’t got any pics of them, as the camera isn’t in the vehicle when we have seen them. If any of you North Wales members have any pics, it would be appreciated, as they are nice moters.
Cheers Dave.
Dave
That would be great if you can get any pics of the old Dodges
Thanks
Steve
