This was the first Foden eight wheeler in the area with the Cat 300 engine, considered a very powerful truck at the time, with Tilcon running 265 Rolls and 250 ■■■■■■■ engined Fodens, with one with a 290 ■■■■■■■■

The Cat powered Foden eight wheeler was driven by Charlie Cadwallader for C W Griffiths & Sons, Clarence with sons Andrew and Paul, have always run a very smart fleet of vehicles, and still do to this day.

Well done Dave, always enjoy the tipper pics keep up the good work.

Griffiths have run some nice looking wagons over the years.

Do you know whether they bought that Bedford TM new or not ?

I wonder whether it went on into ARC colours, with a female driver, or may be its not the same one.
But, there werent many TM six wheelers about.
Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark,
Yes they did have it from new, remember the female driver driving one out of ARC at Builth Quarry, that was Charlie Smarts wife. I will ask Paul who had theirs, could have been Charlie.
Cheers Dave

Hi Mark,
Just spoken to Paul, their Bedford TM was sold to a Hereford firm, then finished up with a firm from Newbridge on Wye, where it was written off.
The female driver was as I said Anita Smart.

Five Leylands in C W Grifffiths yard in the early eighties, along with the Clydesdale and the three Bisons, is the first Leyland Constructor purchased by them.

Brand new Leyland Bison, pictured at C W Griffiths, Dolyhir garage, on August 1st 1979.
This was the second Bison that they had with the fixed head engine, the first was on an R plate.

The only ERF’s that C W Griffiths has operated, as far as I remember. The B series was purchased new, followed by the A series which they bought. Both pictured at their Dolyhir garage in the early eighties.

C W Griffiths ERF B series, pictured in March 1978.It worked out of the Gore and Dolyhir quarries with C W Griffiths This lorry spent most of its working life, hauling out of Strinds and Dolyhir Quarries, after C W Griffiths sold it, firstly to Derek Layton from Kington, who painted it green,he also ran it as a flat bed for a short while, then sold to Bob Taylor another owner driver who operated out of the same quarries.
