I think that the “L” reg Foden may have been recabbed Dave as the single screen S34 and S36 cab was superceeded by the twin screen S39 cab. We had one which had a smash and we fitted a spare single screen cab to it, the driver wasn’t too pleased as the earlier cab’s had no rooflining or trim so were bare fibreglass, ice on the inside of the roof and cab rear in winter and like a sauna in summer! Al least Sharples had proper trucks to do the work with.
Pete.
Hi Pete,
Sharples had some good kit, never had to advertise a job in my day, it was a case of someone putting a good word in for you. They would not have any cowboys, Dennis Sharples was a driver himself before they became bigger and obviously needed to be in the yard/office etc. Always had a good reputation right up to the end last autumn, when they packed up.
Cheers Dave.

Nice pic’s again Dave, good to see the Sharples motors again.
Hi John,
Have got a load of pics off Jean Sharples, trying to put the older one’s on first, will take me a week to upload them, a few at a time, says she has more, also put me onto a lot of other Hauliers who have old pics, so should keep the thread going for a while.
Cheers Dave.
Great keep them coming Dave.
cheers
John.

Early sixties Sharples Foden eight wheeler with driver.

Sharples Haulmaster eight wheeler tipper with driver, Tom Williams who drove this lorry from new for about ten years.
This lorry spent its working life hauling out of Nash Rocks Strinds Quarry.

Another picture of Tom Williams Sharples, Foden.

Tom Williams behind the wheel, outside Sharples Eardisley garage.
Ah an S83 cabbed Foden, I’ve covered a few miles in those Dave!

Another of Sharples Fodens.

Another artic of Sharples. John Williams one of their old drivers told me that Dennis Sharples, had two new lorries on the yard every year.

One of Sharples alloy tralers, used on sand and steel haulage, mainly midlands and south Wales.

First of Sharples Foden 3000 series, parked outside the garage.

This is one of two F reg Foden 3000’s purchased by Sharples, driven by George Turrell from Kington.Previously George drove an X reg eight wheeler Foden for Sharples, from new fitted with a coil well, haven,t got a pic of that one.

The other F reg Foden of Sharples, driven by Tom Williams. Both lorries had 300 Cat engines.
Hi Dave
Great stuff again mate, good to see the Sharples Fodens again. Who’s the driver standing next to the Sharples sixties Foden? looks like a young Norman to me with hair,
Don’t tell him I said that!!!

John.

I am putting quite a few on each day John, only borrowed the pics, and as they are out of Jean Sharples family album, had better get them back, got about a dozen more to post, then on to some more, from other hauliers around here.
Should know that driver, will ask when I return the pics, certainly wasn’t Norman, car driving is his limit, although he bought a camper when he retired, but doesn’t use it as he don’t like driving !!!

Cheers Dave.
