An L reg Foden at the yard. Dennis Sharples purchased his first ne lorry eighty four years ago in 1935.
This is one of the models with the newer single windscreen.
Another of Sharples fine fleet of Fodens. This F reg was run at the time when they were running a lot of trucks. They were very big Foden fans, right up until Foden finished.
I think that the “L” reg Foden may have been recabbed Dave as the single screen S34 and S36 cab was superceeded by the twin screen S39 cab. We had one which had a smash and we fitted a spare single screen cab to it, the driver wasn’t too pleased as the earlier cab’s had no rooflining or trim so were bare fibreglass, ice on the inside of the roof and cab rear in winter and like a sauna in summer! Al least Sharples had proper trucks to do the work with.
This is a 1989 Foden 4000 we bought s/h about 1994 she had a 300 CAT with a jake and a 13 speed Eaton box.She carried a genuine 17t, she earnt us good money as we were quite busy the 6 years I drove it. We still use it to carry our asphalt paver with a hooklift set up
One of Sharples Foden eight wheeler tippers used for hauling sand to steelworks, carrying coils out from the steelworks, fitted with a false floor and a coil well.
L Reg Foden artic, loaded with pipes outside Sharples Eardisley garage. Most of these Fodens units had tipping gear for pulling tipping trailers on the sand- steel runs .
An H reg Foden artic of Sharples, again with the single windscreen, I remember this lorry well, because of th RED number. They did have a couple of very bad smashes, but from memory I think it would have been before they had these, will check with John Williams, one of their long serving drivers, now retired.
