One of Ivor Duggans tractors spreading lime, driven by Steve Duggan.
One of Ivors loading at a farm.
Ivors eight legger loading lime at Doyhir quarry, the lime bins are directly underneath the lime plant.
Weighing out at Strinds/Dolyhir quarries, when they were owned by Nash Rocks stone and lime company,
now owned by t----c.
Spreading lime once again.
Back in the late 80’s Steve Duggan was travelling along the mountain road, from Capel y Ffyn to Hay Bluff, when he had this mishap, luckily he didn,t go off road on the otherside, there is a 200 foot drop. Steve and a mate surveying the scene.
Close up of the damage.
And another view.
Not a pretty sight, but a lucky escape.

Thats exactly how the job is Curnock, if you look back through this thread, you will see his eight wheeler down through a hedge, after sliding off the ramps. I never come off them myself, but didn,t do it for many years.
Back in the sixties, they never had proper ramps, they were made up from railway sleepers and lorry wheel hubs, worked quite well, unless a ram gave way, and smashed the lorry through the sleepers, which I saw happen with a Bedford TK, broke the chassis, end of lorry.
Cheers Dave.
yeh i seen that, one wrong move and you’ve lost it.
Quite rare for it to happen, no cowboys on that job, would be lethal, most of them are very careful. Same as most jobs with lorries as you know.
One of Ivor Duggans six wheelers seen in the Strinds quarry.
Ivors eight wheeler at the lime shed at Strinds quarry, any lime that is surplus to the bins below the crushing plant overflows into the shed.
Another of a six tipping spoil on site work.
Hello Dave
Sorry to sound a bit thick ( I heard what you said then!!!
) but how did that one of Duggans come off the ramp ?
I have seen trucks doing this job years ago on ramps built out of anything they could get hold of, but in some of your other pic’s it looks like Ivors got the proper kit for it.
cheers
John.

Yes he has proper metal ramps John, when I drove for Clarence Griffiths years ago, he had the proper ramps as well, they are ok with a six or an eight wheeler, but with a four wheeler, you had to watch you didn’t go back to hard against the bar, or you would get them to tip back, smashing the batteries and diesel tank as they came up under the lorry. Ivor said the lorry slid back, I would think they were reversing back and the lorry slid past the ramps and on through the hedge. I will ask him when I give him these pics back.
Cheers Dave
