Tony Lewis from Peterchurch drove this Leyland Clydesdale himself, he tipped it end over end at Staunton on Wye on the A438 when a car came out in front of him. Tony went head first through the windscreen and landed on his feet in front of the upturned lorry. He had sixty stitches in his head and forearm. The lorry had a new cab and was back on the road in a month with Tony at the wheel. This vehicle is due to be restored soon.

One of Tony Lewis Volvo’s coming through the roadworks on the A4111 heading into Eardisley. Driven from new by D T (Dave Thomas ) one of four Volvo six wheeler tippers that Tony runs out of Gore quarry. He also currently runs a Daf six wheeler and a Volvo four wheeler from Gore.

Nice pics mate, keep 'em coming. :sunglasses:

BTW, I don’t suppose you have any pics of khaki Tarmac lorries do you ? I bet there were plenty of khaki machines in the Welsh mountains in the 70s / 80s. :sunglasses:

BD, Tarmac only had the quarries near here when Anglo American took them over, these here were the Gore owned by Tilcon and the Strinds/Dolyhir quarries owned by Nash Rocks.
The only quarry that Tarmac in the khaki colours had this way, was Rhayader, which they only ran for a short time, then mothballed it. Have got a load more pics to post on here, some older when the Hauliers sort them for me.
Cheers Dave.

Ivor Duggan runs four Foden tippers on Lime and stone haulage, also carrying fodder beat to mid and west Wales farms in the winter. This vehicle one of three six wheelers fitted with greedy boards for carrying the beat, Ivors eight wheeler also does the same through the winter. All the lorries have Cat 400 engines.

Two of Ivor Duggans tractors, the FENDT is brand new, the Massey Ferguson is being replaced tomorrow 5th March by another FENDT. These are used for lime spreading and are over 200 bhp.

Ivor Duggan and sons Steve and Sean with their team are the biggest Lime and Spreading firm on the Herefordshire- Mid Wales Borders.

L500LFO is still running every day working as a subbie for The Hogan Group, Bangor, North Wales. Owned and operated by Tecwyn Jones of Llanrug near Caernarfon, North Wales. At the age of 67 he’s not even thinking of retiring.

Quite a few still working down this way over retirement age. Tony Lewis who has lorries featured on this thread is 74 and still driving as well as employing six drivers and a part time mechanic, was talking to him today when my good lady took some pics, he still has the enthusiasm he always had, a true lorry man, same as Tecwyn Jones.
