Pete Hi , another one from Market Drayton , Caulkins transport , cc .

Hi CC,
Clive? Caulkins at Loggerheads, used to deliver coarse ration (cattle food) with a Leyland Clydesdale to his yard,10 ton, he said pull in to the shed and stack it on the pallets either side, what he forgot to tell me was under the straw covered floor was an inspection pit covered over with plywood, yes front off side wheel went straight through! unloaded and he dragged it out with tractor, Cheer’s Pete
[/quote]
They also did a lot of bulk sand work , similar to the cadwallerders from high ercall , thank you Trevor .

Ah, Loggerheads!

Never actually took a lorry there, but my first wife and I spent many months of every year at Loggerheads!

John

One of Blowers coming out of Bayston Hill I think,

The Mid Wales Meat CO LTD, were base at Nantmel, Radnorshire where they had an abattoir. These trailers were pulled by two Volvo F12’s.

Hi Dave , is that abbatoir still operating ? I remember a haulier from Oswestry was doing a lot out it , and the one at Weobley , regards Keith .

Hello Dave and Keith . the haulier from Oswestry would probably have been Morris transport they were from West felton , before moving to the industrial estate in Oswestry , all there wagons are plain white . They do a lot of hanging meat in imid wales for Hamers at llanidloes . thank you Trevor .

Hi Trevor,
You are probably right. I remember seeing a program on TV years ago about Morris of Oswestry,it showed the boss running the firm out of the cab. Happy new year to you and your family.
Cheers Dave .

Hi Dave do you have any idea when that pic was taken please? Trailer looks like new so I’m guessing the guys in the garage (pat Pete etc) have just painted it! Your right they were pulled by F12s but in the early days it was an F86 and F88. Have you any more pics?? Thanks

Morning MWM,
Dave has sadly passed away since he posted that picture, my guess at the location is Knill’s garage at Crossgates, building looks the same one that is still there up the side of the garage/cafe, sorry to be the bearer of bad news but we are all missing his knowledge on here, Cheer’s Pete

Morris Transport , Oswestry as mentioned above .

been speaking to an old mate of mine , and he says Caulkins had one or two Fodens with 2 stroke motors , the old quarry theyn used to haul out of is now owned by Malcolm harrison , thank you Trevor

Hey pete , that ex Lloyds Foden is that the chap from Onibury by the level crossing ? He also has a showmans caravan and a Foden double decker bus , regards Keith

Hi Keith,
I’m not sure, I know the yard but it is on a bad bit of the 49 so you cannot “view” yard in case you end up in river!

Passed by Onibury this weekend and i see he also has a Scammel unit . Wonder if it is ex Woolley of nearby Bucknell ? regards Keith .

Morning CC,
Yes that is ex Lloyds and then sold to Sharples of Eardisley so she had a few miles under her belt when retired. We are missing Dave terribly here, he is probably laughing at us bumbling along! If Jack Cook reading can you tell us anymore? Pic below is one of D.T.R’s of same motor I have re-posted, note the bumper has been changed,

Hello Pete , what a great picture , i remember Wrekin roadways in Wellington hauling steel beams from i think Adamson alliance they made bridge structures and the like .
They also would be seen at Air products Acrefair but that was years ago when they had LAD cabbed Dodges .
Did you know they also had wagons on hire to British sugar corporation at Allscott, they were Seddon 8 wheelers . I think the chap that ran the company was David James but i maybe wrong . Good to see this famous Shropshire firm , do you have any more Pete ? thank you Trevor.

Hi Trevor,
I went past their old yard on the Holyhead Road a couple weeks ago and it is all occupied by houses now, I never knew they done British Sugar work I thought that BRS had Allscott sown up from the Bucks Head yard in Wellington, Is there anything left to demolish in this country now? all the companies mentioned above have been razed to the ground,I will have a look to see if I can find any more, Cheer’s Pete

Hello again Pete , that Holyhead road was always a bottle neck before the M54 ,especially there at Ketley by Wrekins depot . BRS Wellington , i think they also had a small place in Dawley just down the road from Wellington, most of the work was probably GKN and maybe Blockleys brick works as well
Do you remember Wrekin carriers ,they some heavy stuff low loaders and tippers , and i think they were based at Donnington ? thank you Trevor
