Well said, Cap’n H. Although I have to admit that the sun does come over the yardarm a little earlier than it used to! Cheers.

Hiya,
Up in the higher echelons of the Mercantile Marine, the sun comes oe’r the yardarm
every time a bottle is spotted, but according to a mate of mine a ships 1st engineer
most if not every British ship is “dry”, he has come ashore, he likes a drink.

Out in the wilds there Pete ! Nice picture thank you Trevor .

Evening all,
That early Magirus of Whitehouse`s was the same as operated by Entress…(20 tons of plate on the bottom…and drums on the top)!..amazing pulling power, and so odd to look at with their flat fronts to the cab…and sounded just like a Hoover on full suction when they were pulling well…
I tried hard to get Alf to swop, (plus a bit of cash), his Magirus for a new ■■■■■■■ 220 10 speed Atkinson…(because I could move the Magirus into Entress next day)…but it was not to be…Even harder with Alf Arrowsmith…only cracked that hard nut with Volvo…(and saw the lorry entered on that mural in his bungalow with all his lorries on the winding road)…and he told me to wear a chiffon scarf when I had a bad throat…Now who was his son in law who did grass track…and went to work for Bryn Lloyd at Market Drayton?
By gum this thread does exercise my memory cells!!!
Cheerio for now.

Hi Keith,
I’m not sure, I know the yard but it is on a bad bit of the 49 so you cannot “view” yard in case you end up in river!

Cheers pete , about 30 years ago , opposite the rail crossing by that farm , the field was full of old buses , the owner apparently was exporting the Gardner engines to Hong Kong to power boat homes , regards Keith .
