Hiya,
Great tractor unit, but I wouldn’t like to push that four in line tipper up on anything
other than nice level firm ground, the bloke who invented them should have been
tied to one and it set on fire the most awful things ever have never heard any driver
say anything complimentary about them and if they did, I’ll dare bet they’ve never
had to change an inner wheel blowout on one in the p"“”""g down rain.
thanks harry, long retired.

Neil thinks that one was burnt out with a load of oranges on board Harry. The two Dodge’s weren’t around for long.
Cheers Dave.

I didn’t have a problem with those inner trailer wheels really, jack it up and get the air wrench on the nuts and they were soon off.

Pete.

Hiya,
Pete there would have been room in my cab for a “windy wrench” but a compressor
that would operate it would be stretching it a bit, that was one of the few good
things that happened making the guvnor get you the tyreman instead of having to
change your own punctures/blowouts yourself unfortunately it didn’t become the
norm until my driving career was nearly over so I did do quite a bit of it and also I
helped quite a few drivers swap wheels whether they worked for our firm or not.
thanks harry, long retired.

I only did those 4 in lines in the comfort of a garage Harry, not at the roadside! Changed plenty of lorry wheels on the road though, a big L brace and a length of scaffold tube to jump up and down on, and then the brace slipped off and you nearly went arse over ■■■! :open_mouth: They call them ‘The Good Old Days’ don’t they?

Pete.

Same as you Pete, changed wheels on the road. A four wheeler inner rear wheel was the one to be careful with, but I had plenty of practice at 15 when I left school, had 5 months tyre fitting on cars and lorries. Built the muscles up on a pipe slamming lorry tyres off the hub.
Cheers Dave.
