Morning Jack,
How are you getting on with the Fleetmaster t/unit and did you manage to find out any more information about her? Cheer’s Pete
Hi, Pete.
I hope you are in good health!
Yes, the Fleetmaster is finished at long last, are they ever finished? a few trials and tribulations on the way as usual!
There is a photo of her on page 782 of this thread kindly posted by Dave.
I didn’t find out anymore information on the vehicle other than " Oldbury Transfer " written on the headboard when I bought her!
Take care.
Best regards. Jack.

Hi Dave,Ray Bent R.I.P. drove that vehicle for most of her life, and probably the last one to drive her!
When she ended her working life Jean sold her to a breaker near Much Wenlock? ( Ron Evans ) ■■?
I went up there and bought her back off him and owned her for quite a few years with the aim of restoring her back to her original glory, but,■■? It would of been nice to of had one of Sharples vehicles in preservation, as they were quite a big fleet at one time.
Anyway I sold her on. I wish now that I had kept her as she was in quite good nick for her age.
I wonder if she still survives ■■?
I have the original Factory Build Sheet for the vehicle here somewhere !!BVJ 831L was one of 3 Fodens that arrived new from the factory the same week in Sharples yard.
2 units and an 8 wheeler. The 8 wheeler came as a LWB flat bed used on steel, later converted to a tipper and the used on sand and steel Midland / South Wales. Reg number TCJ 701 J. There are pictures of her on this thread.
The other unit was involved in that terrible accident at Whiney Toll Bridge where Jack Watkins lost his life. R.I.P. Jack. The vehicle was written off, she was just over 12 months old if I remember correctly!!! Reg number TCJ 699 J.
BVJ 831 L was used as a shunter for a couple of years before being registered ( mainly I used her for taking trailers for M.O.T. tests on trade plates, ect )
All 3 were fitted with Gardner 180 engines and 12 speed gearboxes.
The units had 5.2 ratio diffs later changed to 4.75, more suitable for our part of the country!!!Best regards Jack Cook.

Hi Jack,
BVJ831L hasn’t been taxed since February 1986,but is still on the DVLA website.Vehicle details
Vehicle make FODEN Date of first registration 01 February 1973 Cylinder capacity (cc) 0cc CO₂Emissions Not available Fuel type DIESEL Vehicle status Not taxed Vehicle colour GREY Vehicle type approval Not available Wheelplan 2 AXLE + ARTIC Revenue weight 32520kg
Calculating the cost of vehicle tax. Thanks for adding the history of the Foden Jack. Was Jack Watkins any relation to Hoppy ? I remember that tragic accident at the railway bridge by Hendersons. One of Kendricks or Oliver Harts involved if I’ve got it right. Good to see you on here again.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave, I hope you are both well?Yes, the accident was between the old railway road bridge and the Toll Bridge.
Jack was loaded with steel heading for South Wales, the other vehicle, a ERF artic, was loaded with coal on it’s way up North!
If I remember correctly the ERF was a sub/contractor to Oliver Harts!
The ERF was rebuilt at Eardisley.
I think that Jack would of been a Uncle to Hoppy and Billy, but stand to be corrected.Best regards, Jack.](http://postimage.org/)

That is the motor from Oldbury? If so that is 100% ex Standard Motor Traction/Transport from Kidderminster,I can remember her sitting behind the gate in Union road,it had crossed flags on side of the sleeper,I will ask around for you, someone will remember, Ken Batson was or is the gaffer of Standard and he bought Barry Brash’s Leyland Beaver, Cheer’s Pete. Thanks, Pete.
It would be nice to know a little bit of PUY,s history!
By the wear I found on some of the major components, ie, diff, clutch and gearbox she had quite a hard life !!!
Thank you for looking around for me.
Best regards, Jack
Hi Jack,
I thought that Jack Watkins was related to Hoppy AKA John Watkins. That sounds about right being his Uncle, also remember Bill who drove for Peter Jones on timber at one time. A livestock wagon overturned at Walton about 40 years ago on a Saturday. Bill was having a pint in the Crown and went up the road and pulled him back onto his wheels with a timber crane.
Wouldn’t see that happening these days.
Cheers Dave.
