Has anyone got any photos of Berry Wiggins Bitumen tankers. They used to haul bitumen into the local quarries this way until the 1970’s.
I had forgotten about them, until my neighbour mentioned them today.
Cheers Dave.
Hi Dave , i havent any pics , but i can remember a Scammell Routeman and Foden 8legger tankers . They were actually registered in Hereford and probably hauled out of Cinderford , regards Keith .
Hi Keith,
I had a look on the web, and Cinderford was one of the many places mentioned with them. Found several photo’s of their wagons, but they are copyright, and I don’t lift anyone’s pics intentionally. Someone I know may have a photo of them.
Cheers Dave.

I remember FJW’s Mammoth- as I know only too well, most loads were handball in those days!
My first encounter with Williams’ lorries was in Hereford market where I used to go to help my old fella in the school holidays. I think the vehicle was a four-wheeled Seddon with Perkins P6. The memory that sticks in my mind was when a beast managed to escape when unloading: Williams’ driver, a big, fit young chap with massive sideburns called Peter gave chase and caught the animal just before it left the market onto Edgar Street. He grabbed it’s horns and managed to hold it until another bloke ran up with a length of rope. Amid tremendous applause it was agreed that Peter had the makings of a stunt man in western films!

Hi Casey,
A lot of blokes had their start on general haulage, before going onto some of the South Wales firms on changeover. A lot from the Golden Valley and Hay on Wye area went on to drive for John Evans and Entress, and other outfits.
Cheers Dave.
