Top quality Dave,is that the Williams that got bought out by the TDG?
Yes thats them Pete, they had a depot at Peterchurch and then Madley, as well as their North Wales base.
Cheers Dave.hiya,
Dave, Didn’t William’s used to be the same colours as the trailer their Scania is pulling
I used to see loads coming out of Flint as I was going in in the early mornings en-route
for Courtaulds factory in the early 1970s.
thanks harry, long retired.
I think they were green when they had a depot in Herefordshire Harry. Another of Ron’s pics.
Cheers Dave.
Hello again Dave , that looks like the park up in Llanidloes the one by the river and by the old crosville depot . That scania was on hire to redland aggregates and hauled powdered slate from Blaenau to a factory that made slate tiles some where in S Wales ,but would be coupled up to a bulk tanker for the job . You know i am pretty sure Aaron ChepstowChap has shown a picture of it ,in that form . on another thread . thank you Trevor

Hi Dave. I was about to say the same pwllheli transport
does any body on here know Richard Spencer. He used to live near Machynlleth and had a Volvo f7 8 wheeler in Hendre Quarry colours working from Tonfanau. Last I heard of him was about 15 years ago. when Tonfanau shut he moved to Norfolk and had a red and white Volvo f10 globetrotter unit puling containers. it would be good to hear from him again
thanks Merfyn

You are probably right Trevor. Ron put a few more on, that were taken in that park. He has some great pics on his site. I wish I had a few more from that era. We only had a few from around here in the 90’s.
Cheers Dave.

This was the lorry I drove for some 8 years on the ‘Slate Run’ from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Rassua for Redlands. The powder was the main constituent used in manufacturing look alike ‘welsh slates’ at the factory near Ebbw Vale. We used three powder tankers and double shifted the unit running it 7 days a week day & night. The engine rarely got cold and we used to get through brake linings like nobody’s business. It was a hard run in those days and there weren’t many drivers who wanted to do it on a regular basis but my feelings were - what would I rather be doing, driving round London and the M25 or going down through mid-Wales watching the kestrels and other wildlife whilst being swooped down on by the fighter jets going over Dinas Mawddwy !
MAGIC:

A small world MAGIC, got to agree the run up through Wales would be a lot less mind numbing than the South East etc. As you say a hard run, but plenty to see. That pull from Dinas Mawddwy over the top and down to Dolgelleu is hard on anything, let alone an artic, but nice scenery.
Good to hear of your life with that wagon.
Cheers Dave.
Thanks Dave, Haven’t posted for a while but view the thread regularly. Have got more pics but have forgotten how to post them. (It’s an age thing ! ), perhaps you could remind me. Well done to you and your good lady for keeping it going, really enjoy seeing the pics - both old & new. Cheers, Keith.
Hi Keith,
No problem, just let me know which you use to upload pics.Wether its the Trucknet one,or the one I use which is photobucket. I wouldn’t worry about the age thing, I’m 67 later this year, and I only learn’t about five years ago, its just practice, the same as driving.
Cheers Dave.
Dai Ingram in one of Tony Lewis Volvo’s, seen on the A4111 at the Quebb, near Eardisley, Herefordshire.
Hi Dave, managed to sort out putting photo’s on via photobucket (with the help of my son Gareth).
This is one of two taken I believe by Ron Weatherhall somewhere along the A470 on the way down to Ebbw Vale back in the early 1990’s.
