Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

fryske:
Merry Christmas to you, Dave. Must get out this week or so over to your way to see some timber wagons!

Here’s one of Knighton’s finest over in Worcestershire last week:

Merry Christmas to you and your family Steve. That’s Les Sutton on the M A Evans Scania that he has driven from new. Les has been with Roy & David for over forty years.
Cheers Dave.

It was Les who drove the ERF with the 300 GARDNER, Dave. This is me being incognito, by the way! Staying at the sprog’s over Christmas.

Have a good Christmas at the sprog’s Casey. You obviously know Les, him and John Rook have both been there since about 1970. Les was driving for Caine’s of Knighton when I drove for Brisbanes.
Cheers Dave.

Plenty of timber to move.

Must have been early 1980s when I saw Les last, Dave. Probably loading soya meal or something equally 'orrible! I had to press on a bit to stay in front of Les with my 290 F88.

Les comes through this village anytime after four am on his way to the quarries, he’s always the first of M A Evans wagons to come through.
Cheers Dave.

Hasn’t changed a lot, then?!

Hi Dave, I passed Martin and his Scania in Cynghordy yesterday on his way up to the Sugar Loaf - the snow had been falling heavily from before Llanwrtyd when I was on my back down having been to Rhayader. I believe there was a tanker (Biffa??) ahead of him having trouble clearing the top.

Hi Evs,
I was trying to figure out the stretch of road, didn’t think of the A483 Sugar Loaf, makes sense now, quite a sharp pull up around there. Thanks for the info.
Cheers Dave.
