That is the top of Olld Radnor Hill,or what is left of it Steve. The workings of the back edge of the Gore quarry are directly above the beacon on the top of Marks Scania.
Herrock Hill is to the north of where you apppear to be parked. It is next to Bradnor Hill the home of Kington golf course, the highest golf course in England.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Graham,
Yes I remember the eu plates. My next door neighbour is working in Leinthall driving a loading shovel covering for holiday relief for seven weeks. He was telling me they have had one new shovel, with another possibly coming.Sounds as if the new owners are putting their stamp on the place.
Cheers Dave.

My cousin and old workmate Brian Griffiths in the check shirt, seen with the Thames Trader tipper, which he drove for C M Philpotts of Kington from brand new in 1963 on contract to Old Radnor Trading Company hauling lime to Worcestershire lime merchant John Sheward-Gray.Brian is seen here with the spreader driver.Brian has lent me pics of his own lorries which he later ran,as well as these earlier one’s.

hello dave.
i was speaking to one of the operators there yesterday and he said the new company was more focused than the previous one, they were pretty busy with eight leggers in and out yesterday, not forgetting the mixers too.
graham.

The way it used to be done before they had ramps.Brian and the spreader driver shovelling the 10 ton load off.The lime came from Dolyhir quarry.

Pictured by Brian Griffiths house is a white Seddon Atkinson six wheeler which he drove from new for John Sheward-Gray,next to Brians first lorry of his own, another Sed/Atki an ex mixer one of two which he bought off Nash Rocks.

Dave, without me trawling back over all the previous pages, wasn’t there a firm called “The Radnorshire Company”,maybe livestock or cattle feed hauliers,I’m sure I saw something like that name in the 60s?

Hi Chris,
No the Radnorshire Company were as you say a feed firm, with a mill in Knighton, later taken over by RHM.Later taken over by Dalgetty.
Old Radnor Trading Company Ltd owned the Gore and Dolyhir quarries until the mid 60’s selling out to Mann-Abell a Cheltenham based quarry firm who had quarries in the Forest of Dean among other places.
Nash Rocks Ltd owned the Strinds quarry with Nash quarry near Presteigne ( hence the name ).They were owned at one time by Lister’s of Dursley.
Cheers Dave.

With all these nice Sudden Accidents recently posted (I jest - I like them Dave!) an excuse to post this pic I’ve just remembered that I took of David Edwards’ Atkinson Borderer – reputedly the last built — 240 Gardner powered – (like one of his previous lorries!!! …)
