Hi Merfyn,
I remember hauling precoated chippings to a depot of theirs,at Ashchurch near Tewkesbury.Apparently they were taken over by Tarmac in 1971.
Cheers Dave.

Hansons had a gravel pit/concrete plant at Ashchurch, on the Bredon Road. That TK with the Leyland Engine was Editors’ choice last year; It’s a great lorry but not the one I’d choose…

I drove one of those for Ameys, It was the worse lorry I have ever had the misfortune to drive, and I have driven some rubbish in my time. It was noisy, it wouldn’t stop, that wasn’t a big problem, as it wouldn’t go to well either  it was cold it stunck of engine fumes, it wasn’t even old it was just basically a heap of junk. I went from that to a new Lad cabbed Albion, I thought that was the bogs dollocks at the time, but looking back now the only good thing about it was it was new.

Yes I was talking to the chap that owned it last year at Gaydon Nathan, didn’t see him this year.I expect he was in sheltering from the rain.I have heard the MOD are closing down the big depot at Ashchurch.
Cheers Dave.

Hi John,
I drove one for about eight months for S W Brisbane of Knighton,it had the under-slung 5.7 litre engine,in those days it would out pull the Leyland 400,it was a flyer with a two speed axle, but the plating law finished those. They had to be down weighted.
Cheers Dave.

A couple that Altitude John probably knew.

A firm I drove for had a brand new G reg ERF eight legger with a 150 Gardner,it did as much work as everything else in those days, and there were a few that would motor with no limiters etc.

A couple more looking a bit wet.

The one I drove had the hump in the cab, no 2 speed I had enough carpets and blankets over the bonnet to kit out a 4 bedrooms house, but the noise was still terrible.
cheers
John.
