Back to Dave Neville’s lorries, don’t know much about this American motor, seen at the back of Dave’s yard.Hi Dave not sure but that White road commander could have been ex Gammonds of Hereford they had run quite a few american motors over the years regards kk
Yes KK,you are right about Gammonds running American kit.I remember Gammond himself coming up to Kington in the 50’s with a six wheeler International lorry,he was hauling some of Passey Nott loads in those days.
Cheers Dave.
Hi KK,
Was talking to Dave Neville this morning.I asked him about the White Road Commander,it wasn’t Gammonds and it wasn’t his,it belonged to Dave Apperley who subbed to Dave Neville, who later had this Bedford TM.

Hope this doesn’t contravene any rules,it’s not exactly a bus,it was a sort of crew cab motor, used with a platform on the roof to cut branches etc off tree’s on the various bus routes, especially where double Decker’s ran.hiya,
Reckon H&S would have a birthday with that set-up in this day and age Dave.
thanks harry long retired.
Hi Harry,
Spoke to Dave Neville this morning, asked him about this vehicle.Dave’s dad started as a driver with Midland Red then worked his way up to being an engineer inspector,he said his dad and a couple of others would choose a route wherever they wanted and go along with the pole stuck up on the platform until it hit the bough of a tree, they would then ask the owner of the tree if it was OK to cut the bough’s off,and very often ending up falling the tree.Dave Neville said it was a peach of a job,no way would they be able to do that these days with the planning laws etc.The good old days
.
Cheers Dave.
