Welsh Border and Mid Wales Hauliers 1950's onwards

Hope this doesn’t contravene any rules,it’s not exactly a bus,it was a sort of crew cab motor, used with a platform on the roof to cut branches etc off tree’s on the various bus routes, especially where double Decker’s ran.

Absolutely right Harry,it would have to be done out of a cherry picker with half a dozen blokes around, also with traffic lights and sign’s galore.
Cheers Dave.

I expect it’s all down to the council to do that type of work these days Harry.I will ask Dave Neville what that vehicle was called,he did say about it and referred to it by name, saying his Dad drove it.He’s an interesting bloke, will try and ask him some more when I pop his photo’s back, will try and get him on here,he drove for Entress and others before setting up in business himself.
Cheers Dave.

Another pic of the Midland Red runabout.

Dave the Renegade:

A break from Dave Neville’s lorries, his Dad drove for Midland Red and I would think judging by the pics Dave lent me was a mechanic. This one came to grief somewhere between Hereford and Shrewsbury.

Midland Red built their own buses for many years. This is a D5B

Between August 1950 and February 1952, a batch of one hundred vehicles entered service. Unlike the first batch, these were fitted with electrically operated four-leaf folding entrance doors, and to distinguish them from the earlier open-platform vehicles, they were designated the BMMO type code D5B.

Other notable changes to this second batch of vehicles included an improved seating design and a different radiator grille. These vehicles also had an emergency door fitted at the bottom of the staircase on the rear wall of the vehicle, which was a legal requirement on vehicles fitted with platform doors.

Yes KK,you are right about Gammonds running American kit.I remember Gammond himself coming up to Kington in the 50’s with a six wheeler International lorry,he was hauling some of Passey Nott loads in those days.
