One of R F Bellis of Wrexham, seen on the A49 Leominster bypass.

M A N pulling a tanker,seen on the A49 Leminster bypass.

A smart Scania pulling a reefer, seen on the A49 Leominster bypass.
For Dave and Borders thread.Found these with some old ledgers of my Grandads tipper firm E&O Griffiths. These date from late 1940s,hauling from quarries across South Wales and the Borders.Even pears and apples to Bulmers,Hereford.Les Chilcott at the wheel of his Bedford on hire to the ministry of works. Les on bonnet.Blacked out headlight and O.H.M.S.Herefordshire registration. Pembro
s owned many quarries in South Wales,Five Lanes being one of them.I remember going to Pembros house as a boy and being amazed at how many Commer
s they had in the yard.
As Dave will testify, part of a balanced diet around these parts is a daily intake of quality fruit.Mainly in liquid form.
Sorry about the picture quality. Leyland Comet tipper driven by Tom Price. This was one of the first tipper chassis in South Wales.

Hi Rich,
Cracking stuff, especially the pic of the Leyland Comet.I used to go into the sand pit at Stertton Sugwas, also delivered stone to Bulmers at various times when they were expanding their Plough Lane premises.I can well imagine the intake of the liquid form of fruit .
Cheers Dave.
I feel a bit of a fraud putting this modern stuff on an old forum, especially after richgriff’s cracking pics, but haven’t come across any old one’s at the moment.
Here’s one of Davant’s from Ledbury, seen again on Leominster bypass.
Cheers Dave.Grandad had Leyland Beavers and Bulls as well, with petrol engines. They were very well looked after, covering many miles. The ledgers have them hauling a lot of material from Sutton Sugwas,as far as Swansea. There is one input of them hauling flowers to cambridge.Bulmers have got some large orchards north of Monmouth, they are busy harvesting at the moment.Proper apple juice!!
Hi Rich,
Was watching Countryfile last Sunday,it was showing a vineyard near Monmouth.Bulmers( or whatever lager firm ) as you probably know have relocated a lot of their work to Ledbury and other places now. Their Hereford operation looks to be on the way out.The pit at Stretton Suggwas had good building sand, but all worked out several years ago,was quite a busy p lace with the readymix batching plant there as well. Its good to see the old invoices,a different world to the printoutss of today.
Cheers Dave.

One of Roger Matthews ERF’s heading for the Gore quarry, seen on the A44 at Dunfield near Kington.Saw this wagon on A40 near Eynsham this morning; good condition for it’s age.
Not seen Roger for a few years now, but he always kept them tidy.
I was talking to him the other day, he’s a nice chap & the ERF still running well. As far as I know, he’s still got several but only running the one now.

Your right there BB he is a nice chap, and always cheerful never seems to let anything get him down. Yeah I think Dave said he still has a few, but some are parked up until work picks up a bit.
Only just got this one of Peter Preston in his very tidy Scania eight legger, seen on Leominster bypass.
A West Wales ERF,always nice to see a tidy British moter, again on Leominster bypass.
Brilliant pics richgriff. (The ticket with the sand and gravel on) "Round Gravel 1.1/5’ and 3/4 would now have to be designated 20-40mm and 10-20mm in todays Euro dictatorship (EU standards!)
Pip Blyth with one of Bayliss Bros eight wheelers, seen again on Leominster bypass.
1976 Leyland Clydesdale tipper 410 engine.Cab held together with freshair.Dad had one normally aspirated, this one is blown so should push on.Thought Muckaway and Dave may like to give her a roadtest. She is now minus cab and body, stripped down, drums and brakes removed.Have got one very good cab, the blue one has a complete interior. The original has the black plastic panels inside, all cracked and gone brittle.

Great pics once again Rich, the Clydesdale was a good tipper, several ran them this way. Your Atki looked a smart moter, don’t expect you had much trouble selling it.
Cheers Dave.
Atki now back up north,Garstang area. She looked great and went well.Being from a tipper background the Leyland needed to be saved.I think getting one or two parts maybe a problem. She could do with a tidy fuel tank,if I can find one.Maybe someone in your neck of the woods has a scrapped Reiver or Clydesdale lying around. If you dont ask,you don
t find out.cheers Rich
