Well, thanks for the advice but

Just checked, it’s done on a GV80A, no advertising required and no fee payable.

I wish you and little Harry well. Monk and Son sounds fine.

As long as you are sure the proposed yard will sail through the nimby objections, it is good advice to get more trailers, you may have a chance of a bit on the side with a small specialist rental business in the future. A tipper and a low loader are always required at short notice.

Good luck Harry, that green Premium is sorta the right colour, but I can see it now on TV in 20 years time…‘‘Harry Monk Trucks and Trailers’’ :grimacing:

It’s obvious you’ve put a great deal of thought into this Harry and that’s what separates your plans from the many others we’ve read about. There is a school of thought that says a good time to start a new business is in the depths of a recession. I think your chances of making a go of it are well above average and wish you well in your new venture!

Good luck Harry, may your road be smooth.

Harry, did you check by speaking to VOSA or just reading the form?

when i last asked about this with VOSA, they told me that it would have to be a completely new application

Haven’t checked, but that’s what it says in the December 2011 CPC manual.

I had to apply for a Restricted O Licence about 12 years ago and the paper charged by column inch.

I noticed that the company address would appear twice, once for the business adress and one for the operating centre. I trimmed the address and stated that an operating centre for 1 vehicle would be required at the above addess.

Saved a few quid and didn’t cause any issues.

Harry I wish you all the very best in your new venture. Good luck and here’s to your’e continued success. Always follow your dreams.

Good luck
Make copies of every thing you send in with your application, (scanning department tend to lose stuff). Send it recorded and give them a call a few days after its delivered, get them to confirm that they have all they need to proceed with your application.

Thanks, and to everyone else for the advice too. I am off work this week so will report on progress as I make it. I don’t yet have anywhere to park or a maintenance contract, but I’m working on it. I’m hoping to post the application off on Friday, and if things go well on Monday/Tuesday, I should be able to send the newspaper notice off with the application.

I’m going to be applying for a Standard National O Licence next week anyway.

Purely Devils Advocate, but… Why not go straight for the International Licence? Gives you a bit more scope in the future, especially considering you location :bulb:

Good point about applying for extra trailers.

Im not so sure, i put in for six and the village were/are up in arms, sort of shot myself in the foot.

I’m not sure where I will be based yet but I would only base myself somewhere established as an operating centre decades ago and where environmental objections would be ignored.

the way that i read your first post on here, was as if you had already found your operating centre

you will not get a maintenance contract until you have a vehicle, you will not get finance for the vehicle until you have got the operating licence, what you will need is, a letter of intent from your maintenance provider of choice stating that he will look after your vehicle(s) when you get one

I didn’t bother with my first application.
As Stumpy said, no truck, no need for a maintainance provider.

The licence was granted without a maintainance agreement, iirc, then I notified them once i got a truck.

Good luck Harry, let us know how it goes.

Ok, to fill everybody in, I have next week off, am re-sitting my failed International CPC module on Friday at 3 p.m, but in the meantime am going to try to get my ducks in a row to apply for a National O Licence.

I haven’t settled on a definite choice of operating centre yet, I have a few options. I am trying to park as close to home as possible and new ideas present themselves all of the time.

I would hope to sort it out in the next few days and run the advert in the paper on Friday, then I can just get on with my job as an employee for the 9 or so weeks it will take to get a decision from the TC.

I would always try and park as close to the work as possible as your car will use a lot less fuel than the wagon so you’re better off driving further in the car and less in the wagon. Also as your car doesn’t have a tacho you end up with more legal working time each day if the truck is near the work.

Obviously that only holds if most/all of your work is in about the same place.

Yes, I know. I’m trying to find a balance between the empty mileage in the truck and the fact that I could get rid of my car altogether if the truck was close enough that my girlfriend could drop me there or I could get a £3 taxi ride twice a week.
