Blimey, that’s a shocking revelation, truck drivers on a truck drivers forum called trucknet are a bit biased towards truck drivers. Fancy that. Well spotted Albion, 10 detective points to you.

I’d completely forgotten about alcohol again, dispensed with the orange juice and started on the Henry Weston’s Vintage.

I just hope they didnt have a sticker on the rear of their unit saying " if you can read this…ive lost my trailer " :open_mouth:

I hope you didn’t waste the vodka !

Wonder if he got the sack might be a job going lol

But his MPG figures would have been excellent though.
And he will never get to blame an agency driver for that, unless he/she is one.

“Now you are showing your level of intelligence bob.
What is wrong?
Maybe you are upset cos you know he is quite right.
Just have a look,it is there in black and white for all to see.
There are bad truck drivers…bad cyclists…bad car drivers and far too many biased people on here.”

Bigger [zb].

You seriously saying that it’s the drivers fault? Ok, if he had just set off…

Censor dodge removed. Have another read of Rule 3. Colingl

Just think if a cyclist had dumped a trailer into lane 2 of the motorway network we would have been on page 3 already of this thread!!!

A dumb cyclist maybe kills themselves!

A dumb trucker maybe kills many more!

I don’t need to mention the M5 earlier this week do I? ironically a cyclist who had dim lights gets more airtime on this forum!!!

This thread been active now for 9hrs and hardly a murmur from you!
On how irresponsible truck drivers are, and who pose more of a threat to the public than any cyclist?

I don’t think this is the drivers fault, there is no wayon earth that trailer would get that far without dropping sooner.

We had it at Co-op once, there was a 35ft trailer that was dropped on it’s knees going to the trailer park, shunter got disciplined for it, a week later a driver did the same thing with the same trailer, except it was on a exit slip road 90 miles from the yard, luckily no one was hurt, Police investigation found that there was an issue with the king pin.

Steady on there Tom ! That’s my favourite Tipple, I usually clear Sainsburys shelf, because they only ever get a couple of trays in. Lol !

A trailer badly connected with the king pin sitting on top of the locked jaws will stay there indefinately…until it hits the right bump in the road which throws the trailer off.

One of the blokes i used to work with ran all the way from Bristol and dropped the trailer on the Embankment just along from Parliament in exactly these circumstances.

The only way to ensure this doesn’t happen is to make sure the 5th wheel is lifting the trailer before the king pin enters the jaws, and or shine a light up into the jaws from behind once fully connected to see the jaws are indeed wrapped around the king pin and the flange is where it should be, under the jaws.

**none of us where we worked at the time believed this could happen either, but not long after i had to pick up a fully loaded trailer which someone had dropped on uneven ground so the trailer was leaning to one side, as i backed the unit under the jaws locked, but the sound wasn’t quite right (which might be something to bear in mnd), so wound the legs up and dragged the trailer down onto the level ground, got me torch out and sure enough could see daylight between the 5th wheel and the rubbing plate, shocking that was and confirmed the story as not only feasable but easily done.

The problem is i’ve seen otherwise apparently experienced drivers (well think they are) reverse up to and pick up dropped trailers purely by mirrors alone, didn’t check heights or anything just reversed back till it clunked or the trailer hit the cab if it was too high, bloody useless sods…incidentally learning out the drivers door to reverse which many here seem to think is scandalous also gives you a view of the edge of the 5th wheel and you can see the pick up in progess and listen to the process which is just as important…well unless you’re a no neck shrimp.

The results of poor driver practice is when somebody (and the bloke who dropped the one in this thread might not have connected it himself but will probably get the blame) drops the trailer on its knees anything from 1 yard to 100 miles away.

And also the SCREWDRIVER who drops a trailer on UNEVEN ground! you’re taught to drop on even ground! :sunglasses: the amount of screwdrivers who don’t use the air suspension BOX to lift it up or the shunters who SLAP the fifth wheels into EVERY trailer when they’ve a little lever to pull to move the fifth wheel UP OR DOWN! Getting grease  all over for the next driver to smear all over his catwalk! amazing screwdrivers who never put the trailer parking break on, the list is endless! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

In the old days of wheels on the end of the landing legs, and ratchet trailer brakes :grimacing: and no run up ramps on the back of the fifth wheel, you were DONALD ducked on the docks when shunter dropped it too low, but it was so funny to see them roll off with air in the tanks!

I remember years ago when i worked in a garage that resprayed a certain livery on to new trailers, a freshly painted trailer was waiting to be picked up and the guy came into the yard and he must of been in a hurry ( or just an idiot ) as he flew backwards under the trailer and didnt even bother to check the height and he totally missed the kingpin and crashed into the trailer !! :open_mouth:

In this day and age with lift suspension anyone who doesn’t physically lift the trailer is a fool even if it’s only to make it easier to wind the legs up

Likewise a pint of Pils.
New keyboard and a carpet shampoo please Luke!

Bet there isn’t an issue with the kingpin or 5th wheel. I worked for a firm in Leeds where a driver left Leeds and lost the trailer off in Nottingham, there were no stops in-between so it wasn’t sabotage it was purely the kingpin sat on top of the jaw. The driver had reversed under the trailer which was too high , the kingpin must have just skimmed the top of the jaw which closed it and the pin sat on top waiting for the right bump to lose it off.

Hope shunter driver got his disciplinary removed.

You can move trailers without the jaws going fully home, I had to get a trailer of a piece of rough ground at the beck off our yard a week or so ago, because of the angle off the rubbing plate to the 5th wheel the jaws wouldnt go fully home, the trailer was empty and I was able to drag it onto flat ground and recouple. Its not the 1st time I’ve done that either, so it is possible.

Back in 2004, six 04 plate ERF’s of ours had fifth wheels replaced - hush hush like
