weekend working

Some folk I know only go shopping on weekend because they are too lazy to go through the week and would rather sit on the sofa watching soaps all evening.
I lad I know tramps all week and gets home on Friday evening or satday morning then has to take the family shopping on a Saturday because his wife who only works part time is too lazy to do it through the week,iv told him he is a mug but he doesn’t listen.

I go shopping on a Friday evening and I maybe use tesco express a couple of times a week for a few bits, but if I’m home late on a Friday my mrs goes and does the shopping so it doesn’t impact on our weekend by doing it on a satday

I think that weekends in this job are really a thing of the past, well they seem to be for me anyway. The days and weeks all seem to roll into one.

I work for Morrisons and work four weekends out of my six week pattern. Starting very early in the morning means I do have a bit of time in the afternoons for social things.

God I hope I am retired by the time I am asked to work Christmas day. I have thinking for years how sad it is that people have nothing better to do on boxing day or new years day than go shopping for a new sofa.

I like working when most people are in bed, but I do work too many weekends for my liking. However, the relaxed nature of the job and reasonable pay are a big draw.

It would seem that making money is more important than everything else including family?

And the bigger these outfits get the more demands they make and the more the fabric of society is weakened in their desire for bigger profits and ■■■■■■■■■■.

Remember that when the competition is eliminated (and it will - look at the energy sector) you’ll find less choice (as less profitable goods are replaced by what they think we should buy) and higher prices.

I don’t enjoy being lead by the nose but I’m being left with not much choice in these days days of global economies!!! Bet they aren’t paying £2500+ per yer for their dual fuel in Beijing?!

you have to put your name down if you want to work at the weekend…at my place.

Asda and Morrison may be much worse but they are nowhere near as bad as Tesco. So they are worse than Tesco but not as bad as Tesco?

You haven’t given a single reason for why you seemingly hate Tesco so much. But then nobody ever can. Its just Brits love of knocking the successful as usual.

No I meant you said Asda & Morrison are much worse right & I’m saying yes, to you that may be the case but in actual fact tesco is worse than them…

It would take too long to outline my reasons so I won’t waste my time, what I want to know is why YOU love tesco so much…?

cab rat:
Thanks for the replies, I was quite happy at asda the work is steady and the pay is ok and I knew what I was letting myself in for when I started, it’s just now I think they have gone too far the other way. I agree with pimpdaddy that with more thought they could eliminate the need for so many weekends :- stores don’t need or want frozen delivered on Saturday night also like the idea of dropping loaded trailers for extra storage but as we don’t get any extra pay for Saturday / Sunday it isn’t a cost issue for them . Btw pimpdaddy I work nights 18:30 start 52 hrs average 40k . Like I say it’s not about the money !

what depot you at?

Dont really love it anymore than I would love any big company. Just find it weird how people single it out, when it behaves no better or no worse than any other big concern. But at least its a British international success story to be proud of, unlike Asda. I find it hard to love or hate and get wound up by large soulless corporations (which is why I couldn’t care less about Stobart for instance), I’m too busy living life and channeling my emotions into other things. Maybe you should try the same.

Still not given a single reason I see. I only asked for one, not an essay. Give me one reason you hate Tesco so much, a reason that’s exclusive to Tesco that applies to no other big company, and I’ll stop asking…

As you were.

I hate tesco they way things in the shop are set out , and I never liked the old style carrier bags  asda for me

#1 I hate tesco because it’s caused so many small independent retailers to shut down.
#2 I hate tesco because it’s zb expensive!

Ok, then hate Asda and Morrisons and Sainburys too. That’s all I’m saying. Nothing wrong with hating supermarkets, just seems weird to me how people single out one. Lets face it Tesco started out as a single corner shop itself. And for a long time it was against the giant that was Sainsburys. They were a big chain before Tesco. Hate them too?

Btw I don’t lose sleep over tesco , deliver to goole now and then , and understand waiting is part of it , I just don’t like the the layout (in every tesco , and the old carrier bags looked scruffy lol)

the reason I hate Tesco is that they are by far the worst delivery I do…simple as that.

#1 reason to dislike Tesco - they started and continue to lead the race to the bottom and all that goes with it. If that’s something to be proud of then I may just be a Chinaman!

Just my own opinion

I worked for 5 years doing Thursday to Monday on Autocarriers, you just alter your week to suit, loved pulling in to the depot at 6am on a Monday morning just as the weekday men were starting and I was finished.

Worked for one, ASDA, and delivered to the rest. Not really bothered by any of them. They are all businesses, out to make cash, as much as possible for the least outlay. Just like any other business really. The people that work there, shop or rdc, are just like anyone else, some good some bad. When I was at ASDA you would regularly see things like " voted britains best place to work" , where do they come from? I was never asked anything and never met anyone who was. Like them or not it was the easiest job I’ve ever had in transport.

Ah yeah, paying less money for things is a real pain in the arse. Btw they weren’t to bring the American self service supermarket to the UK. And the ly didn’t invent it. The Americans did.

What?

Each to their own I suppose.

You always pay less to start with and then…

Retired Old ■■■■:
I’m old enough to remember when the “normal working week” consisted of Monday to Friday plus Saturday mornings. Sunday was a day of rest.
Then all you tossers decided you wanted to accompany your spouses on Sunday shopping trips and everything went to c*ck.

Agreed!

Oh yes that’s right. Achieving profit margins by selling us horsemeat and reducing their employees terms and conditions…
