Weekend shift. Bridging the gap

Ok i got a new shift Sat-Mon day shift which pays as if I did a full week, I now have an opportunity to look at doing something else through the week to make some extra money, what would you do in my shoes?

depends mate on whether you have kids etc…its more money but theres a reason why, u will miss out on family/friends time…ive doen weekend in past and its tough, work is alot easier as its much more quieter and relaxed but its that empty feeling you get in stomach knowing kids etc are at home. but hey ho comes with the job!

You can make some beer tokens buying and selling on eBay, that’s what I do on my days off.

eg I bought a item for £16 left it in the yard. A week later I relisted the item and it sold for £71, all I did was write the advert a little better than the original one.

I have a pick-up truck, folks always want stuff moving.
I have some chainsaws and tree lopping gear, that makes a bit of cash here and there.

Buy some tile cutting gear or simular, a couple of evenings at night school and offer your services to friends and family tiling, soon word gets around.

Working weekends is ideal for me because the Mrs is a school teacher so during the holidays we will all be home together. Rubbish during term time but great for kids during holidays.

I just started tiling my kitchen first time in my life and its coming on really well so might go with that idea, bought a wet saw too does the job perfect.

Thanks for suggestions so far.

I did think about offering my Nat & Int CPC to a small operator local to me and be a part time hands on transport manager.

Could think about doing the courses to become a qualified trainer in CPC? Probably not a bad bit of business, especially when September 2014 comes around. Sell your services to agencies & hauliers in the area if they don’t have one in-house.

Ahh… .A dream set of hours for a part time job! I don’t often find myself envying someone else’s hours, but there it is. Make sure that doing extra hours outside won’t ■■■■ the firm off - you don’t want to be rocking the boat with such a plum deal do you? :open_mouth:

Hey Winseer, there are plenty companies out there that would give you body parts to do weekend shifts, believe me. I sent an email out last Monday to 7 companies all with same email and all 7 responded within 2 days

true …vosa have told me i must record all work done driving or not so i keep a book and cut up digi rolls into days and mark on them what i have done on every day working (non driving), i know most people would not bother but if i don’t i am a bag of nerves every time a vosa van comes near me

Unless your on the books at another company it’s very hard for them to prove. Have you done any other work this week Mr Javelin? No! Stayed in bed Monday 17:00 right up to Sat 03:00

lots of drivers on here say even if you are the books of another company they wont look that much in depth on a normal check ,the only time they will look into what you have been doing is if your involved in a serious accident ,but i suppose the chances are slim of them doing anything unless that happens
