Thanks Pete. I read it earlier and posted a couple of links about the silk road with Toprun.
I was trying to get the non believers to have a look what other governments were doing for their transport infrastructure
Mike-C:
You should do a write up on TNT Dom. They managed to crush the minimum wage for German postal workers, rip off the HMRC to a tune of about £50 million and then get caught and admit to illegal acts, lost computer discs and still got a contract off the HMRC !! They make Tinnelys and Thorburns look like amateurs !!!
There’s more than a hint of tabloid sensationalism in this posting Mike.
TNT are part of the TPG group and you can’t tar UK workers with the same brush.
As for losing computer discs, yes it’s a ■■■■-up & highly embarrasing for them as a company, but it hardly warrant’s the attention of either the TCs or VOSA, which is what this thread is all about.
Incidentally, they had a contract BEFORE they lost the consignment.
The same goes for them having been awarded a contract with HMRC. They are a logistics firm. That is what they do. Your argument is surely with the government, and in particular the bod who sent out unencripted data as a standard delivery.
Only in your super, soaraway…er Trucknet?

Tabloid sensationalism?!! LOL !! Everything i said is documented fact. TNT have lobbyed hard to be able to open up state postal services to competition, not just here. They got one, first thing to go is the minimum wage. Ok, thats in Germany but it is relevant to how 'competitive ’ the company ethos is. They’ve taken the government here to court to be able to ‘access markets’ here. Ok, computer disc is a cheap shot. But what certainly isn’t is the fact the company was caught ripping off £50 million in tax with in its own words not mine…“illegal acts”. Now contrast that with lets use for example Thorburns. He was disqualified from running his own company and ultimately closed down because of his ‘financial dealings’ not meeting the required standards of ‘repute’, i.e. he lost his repute. That leaves me scratching my head how TNT are still trading here, i don’t believe anyone got the sack there, although i stand to be corrected on that.
“Good repute”…i suppose we all have our own understandings of the words eh?!!
I sense a little backpeddling from Mike-C here.
My points are:
TPG is the International umbrella of TNT so the actions of the TNT management in the UK don’t really affect German workers. TNT lads over here get paid handsomely, I know several of them and believe me, it’s well above average.
Regarding TNT being awarded a contract with HMRC after non-payment of taxes, again I say your gripe is with the UK government.
As for TNT taking the government to court in order to access markets, the EU is pushing the UK to do this and pretty soon the UK will be in breach of EU directives.
Far be it from me to defend the EU — I’d pull out tomorrow, but we’re in this market and we have to play by the rules.
You’ve acknowledged that mentioning computer discs was a “cheap shot” (your words not mine).
Trucknet…………….We love it!
