We all knock Stobarts but

IndigoJo:
It’s not fake; it’s still up on Stobart’s FB page with more comments than probably the rest of the page put together:

Some friends of mine want to get one named after Connor Sparrowhawk, a young man with a learning disability who was a big Stobart fan, who died in an NHS unit in Oxford due to staff negligence in July 2013 (he drowned in the bath during an epileptic fit), but the girls’ name only policy is thought to stand in the way – a shame, as a girl is much less likely to be interested in trucks, learning disability or no.

As has already been stated, That is not an official Stobart page, It’s a page set up by a run of the mill Facebook user.

This is the official page facebook.com/Stobartgroup

I don’t agree with Stobarts always involving themselves in these tradegies as they did also with the April Jones incident, can’t help but feel it’s a bit of shameless promotion of the Stobarts brand coupled with the “gesture”.

Cheers

Don’t remember being blinded by the tabloids when I signed up to protect as many of my fellow citizens in the army careers office on Winmarleigh Street. (Including YOU born idle). Show some respect.

You been in there and served your country BI?

Nah. Thought not.

There are unfortunately people in this country who will never know the sacrifices our services go through on a daily basis both metal and physical. Just being strong enough to put the uniform on knowing what it stands for is hero enough for me.
I served in the Army and now police and yes there are bad apples (as in every walk of life, you cannot avoid that) but on the most part they are descent, dedicated people trying to do good and respect their country. Those people are all Heroes to me. If more thought the same we would be proud to fly flags and have street parades (like America) to honour them without the fear of upsetting anyone.
Weather it’s Stobarts way of getting publicity or not they have done something I think is a good thing.

Did you only operate inside the army careers office?

Lol. Belt fed stapler.

In fairness, once upon a time, they weren’t that safe and were regular IRA bomb targets.

Born Idle is correct, Lee James Rigby deserves the respect he’s always been shown by the media and everyone else, however with all due respect to Lee Rigby and his family he died the victim of two vicious people and a barbarous ideology not a hero.

As far as the name on Stobarts lorry is concerned, if Lee Rigby’s family are happy with it then fair play to Stobarts for doing it.

Born Idle:
Do you? In some cultures, suicide bombers are called heroes

Now THAT is a stupid way to describe someone as a hero. That is wrong because the whole point is to kill as many innocent people as you can for some ridiculous belief

Born Idle:
Do you think any soldier is a hero by definition?

Anyone who joins the army, meaning they are willing to risk his life to fight for his country and protect the freedom that gives YOU the right to insult it, is a hero in my book. Remember, when your on here and in RDCs giving your opinion about everything that takes your fancy,it was guys like him that afforded it for you.

born idle:
why are they called soldiers and not heroes?

Because that would be ridiculous. Soldier is the name of their proffession. Hero would be what they are.

born idle:
Is a squaddie who gets drunk and kicks seven shades of you know what out of a student that gives him brain damage a hero?

No,he loses the hero status after that. But as far as im aware,Lee rigby never gave a student brain damage.

Born Idle:
I think that you are blinded and fed by the tabloid newspaper agenda in this country…are either of us right or wrong?

Oh good, another “the media are all feeding us propoganda, agendas and manipulating us” quote. Its nothing to do with gobbling up media agendas. Its about appreciating what the armed forces do for us. The media bigs up the guys who fought in world wars I and II. Is that an agenda? I for one have enormous respect for those old guys. Do you want to play down what they did?
I said it earlier, you have the freedom to come on here and spout your opinion. It came at a heavy cost to some people. Maybe you should respect it a bit

Great post Snowman. Lots of people on here criticize,i would love to know what percentage of them have had the courage to sign up.

I don’t think that they are hero’s by default. Loads just sign up at 16 as they fail aacademicly and it’s better then shelf stacking money wise, whilst they hope no wars ever take place during the first few years and can quit without doing more then training and humanitarian tours.

Ofcourse after that they get a class 1 licence.

I’m expecting crap for this post but it’s what people I know did.

But don’t you think that definition of “hero” diminishes the meaning of the word when it’s attached to real hero’s who have shown valour and in some cases sacrificed their lives to save others ?

Over the years I’ve known a few people who have joined the military and not one of them joined to save the country.

If you’re old enough cast your mind back to the Falklands war when some people were complaining that when they joined up they never thought they’d have to go and fight in a war

Well I see what you mean. Its one of those “not black and white” situations. I know some people join up hoping never to go to war but the truth they might have to. And if they go to war, which means facing bullets and bombs and protecting people to the threat of their own life, then I think that deserves a certain level of respect. I know that me personally,I wouldn’t last 10 minutes in the army.
But I relent slightly. Maybe hero for some of them is OTT wording. The word does get banded about too easily. But Lee Rigby served a few tours, inc Afganistan, so I feel he deserves a higher status than some of the others.

Further to my earlier posts… It is real, also Mr. Tinkler has retweeted the photos now.

Let’s be honest most people at Stobartgroup couldn’t care less who’s names are on their cabs, they are a brand and need to be the number one in the public eye.

How better to do that than have a marketing department that can utilise the name of some people that became high profile in the public eye thanks to the media machine.

Get real people, don’t believe the hype as that’s all it is. You could almost say it’s working as low and behold the story of how caring and kind stobartgroup are is steadily working it’s way around Facebook, Twitter etc etc

Their marketing bods will be rubbing their hands in delight !!

And all because of a soldier who was butchered to death…sick really when you think why are they ‘Really’ using his name…out of love or respect…No, pure self promotion, nothing more nothing less.
