A MAN has been arrested and charged after a large cannabis farm was discovered during a drugs raid in Darrington.
Officers from Pontefract and Castleford neighbourhood policing team (NPT) swooped on the Waywest Cafe in West-park Drive last Wednesday and found 60 to 80 plants at varying stages of growth.
The plants which were found in a derelict building attached to the cafe were housed over two floors.
Insp Richard Sullivan praised the community for their help in tracking down the farm, which led to the arrest of a 57-year-old man who has been charged with production of cannabis.
Insp Sullivan said: "This discovery was a result of information received from the community.
"My team acted positively with regards to the information received and as a result, cannabis was found.
“We will always take action against people who have been dealing or using drugs or living beyond their means.”
Officers were alerted to the farm after members of the community reported a “smell of cannabis” from the premises.
The plants which were being cultivated in eight growing tents over five rooms were destroyed by officers.

Why does it matter where he goes to the toilet as long as he scrubs up afterwards.
If a chef goes for a ■■■■ in a urinal he has more chance of splash back on his clothes etc
than someone going in the hedge or btl.

LOL…You thought it was me leaving. Shame.
On thursday last week I called in at the WAY WEST on the A1 south at Darrington just south of Ferrybridge, dead on closing time.The new owner Steve and his wife/partner Gill where just about tio lock up. Steve asked me what I wanted, I said I wanted a cooked meal but it didnt matter, no! he said we are here to look after truckers and a cooked meal you shall have, and with that insisted on cooking me a full evening meal I had Steak pie and chips with a brew.
It was very wholesome and reasonably priced, I can recomend it to anyone .
The Cafe which had been run down in the last few years will eventually cater more for overnight parking, with New showers and hopefully a licenced bar,
We need more old fashioned transport cafes so give it a try.
