if you want 15 minutes for a walk round check, then that is your choice, and nobody will slate you for it
but, the real question is, why do people say that you MUST take 15 minute and say it is the law, when it is not

Getting a bit like the new Quo album these days TBH.

losing the will to live now you buggers are dragging the guts out of this like a bunch of women…
As long as nobody brings Stobarts or Jimmy Saville into it I reckon it won’t see page 9

I show 15 mins Rob but its my choice, not been told to by the boss or not read it anyware, just my choice mate to do so
fact was when i had my own trucks i probably was in cab and dragged it out the yard … but if employer wants a check and you do one you will need " time" and i dont mean looking at it as you walk to the door with keys in your hand…
the 15 minute, i have not said it was law, just said minimum and then explained this is what my company as adopted, as well as many others companies, it as also been recommended in 2 separate courses that i have done, one by cpc provider the other a tacho course by a different course provider… my company were advised by VOSA to adopt these checks to keep our record as good as it is…
as the op is a new driver then it is very highly possible he as been told more or less the same…
no 9

driver trainers at stobrats widnes on dcpc 15 mins unit, 15 mins trailer
and out the yard within 45 mins! MMTM VOSA ARE WATCHING!
honestly isotrak is rigged up on gts to show red once the drivers logged on and not left the yard!
then the Spanish Inquisition starts!
these so called drivers BELIEVE THIS CRAP!
make their own rules up as they go along!
then we go to ex forces traffic office chocolate fire guard, who knows most about transport! And starts sacking drivers! Stick it HR we tell him, the little fat welsh bar steward!

firstly, if you think i insinuated it was you who had said it was the law, i apologise, that was not my intention, but, there are people, a lot on here, that say it is the law, when it is not, it is a guideline, in just the same way as the guideline says that if you keep the same truck and trailer, and nobody else uses it, you can do the walk round check in 2 minutes
if the DCPC course instructor said you MUST take 15 minutes to do the checks, then that must be right because they are the ones teaching us
let’s be perfectly honest, most of them haven’t got a clue what they are talking about

“after doing checks for 15 mins and getting mithered to get a move on I decided that I wouldn’t be taking the vehicle out and handed the keys in,”it seems like the attitude given towards him for doing his 15 minutes minimum checks may have give him a clue into what sort of reply to expect!! ?
i dont smoke myself but i will happily talk to guys who are having a ■■■ outside, however if I go into a confined area where someone as been smoking then my breathing changes, wheezing ect however I am not against smoking but it should be in relevant areas, or your own home. or like pubs and restaurants there should be those that allow smoking as long as there are those that don,t allow it. in a truck that as been heavily smoked in i would be ill in a short time, the smell can make me physically sick! to a non smoker the smell can be as overpowering as sitting in a pile of human excrement, so there is no way i would have taken a truck out that stinks of it…
wether smokers like it or not there is a link between smoking and respiratory disease as well as others, and its not going to be long before folk start suing employers for allowing their staff to work in a enviroment that as been smoked in, i dont agree with it but can see it happening within the next few years.
can you show me in writing, or post a link that says you MUST take ‘15 minutes minimum’ to do the walk round checks?
not having a go or taking the ■■■■, i would genuinely like to see this in the form of a link or written rule
Ta Muchly
I can rob but don’t know how much authority the red and yellow law had outside its own depots
I would think that technically , its impossible to smoke in your truck legally even if you were an owner driver, the smoke is now in theory at the least offensive and at the worst illegal, unless you was able to drive the truck, repair the truck, calibrate and repair the tacho and mot test your own vehicle,if you wasnt able to do all of these jobs yourself then at somepoint another person would have to get into the cab at some point, at this point you would be making them smell your smoke or residue, at this point they could, if they so wishes make a legal complaint. Thats
My view, i personally dont smoke, but i did for 15 yrs, so i see it from both sides, it dont bother me now, except for overflowing ashtrays i hate that, i have five trucks all but one of the drivers smoke, i never catch them Mainley cos i dont look.
The leading question is. What would the Vosa man have made of it if he was doing an inspection. Eddie.
