The mistake Mr Thomson made was admitting that he was warning other motorists of a speed trap. He should have just stated that he was warning other motorists of his presence, which is the correct use of flashing headlights.
One Polish trucker I know was taken to court in Poland on the same charge. He said “I saw them coming and they were coming too fast, so I flashed them to remind them that they are going too fast, as I considered it dangerous. I never noticed any speed trap, as I don’t look for them being speed limit obiding driver”
This is legal, as in Poland you can flash your headlights to “warn others about the danger”

So let me get this straight… if I flash my lights at another truck driver going in the opposite direction, regardless of whether he’s speeding or not, and there happens to be a speed camera further up the road in his direction of travel, I’m supposed to be obstructing justice?
So if I see a mate, or someone who I think is a mate but may turn out not to be a mate (just another truck driver) I am not allowed to acknowledge him?
I’m sort of confused but I suspect I know that answer…
Exactly, I quite often flash mates, or people driving trucks quite similar to a mates, who turn out not to be my mate after all. But if I wait until I can actually see the driver, it’ll be too late to flash my lights, they’ll have already gone passed. I think I’ll just continue flashing to mates, or people I think are mates, before I get any more confused

People always moan about speed cameras, “it was 3am and it was quiet and I was only doing 38 in a 30” etc etc.
Break the speed limit=get punished=simples!!
And yes, I have been done for speeding, my fault pure and simple.

As far as I know he got done for obstructing an officer in the corse of his duties.
