How do they prove a person is flashing a warning of speed cameras, may be any of a number of reasons to flash one,s lights.

Actually there is only one legal reason to flash your lights.

Yes, to alert other motorists to your presence. In the circumstances it’s hard to see how the police could interpret a flash of the lights as meaning “You should decelerate as there is a speed trap ahead”.

Indeed. However, they could still nick someone if there was no reason to be alerting other motorists of their presence, they couldn’t use the perverting the course of justice thing in that case though.

dosn’t this just make a mockery of the whole “safety” camera van thing? for years we’ve been told that the cameras aren’t to catch speeders they’re there to ensure people don’t drive at an unsafe speed for the beneifit of road safety, so wasn’t this fella aiding in road safety in telling people to slow down??
4-5 years ago i was doing regular scotch runs, once you got out in the sticks past aberdeen you’d often see a temp sign sat at the side of the road “speed camera van ahead” sure enough they’d be a van a couple of hundred yards down the road, this is basically saying slow down, this is a dangerous stretch of road, if you chose to ignore the warning then you deserved a ticket!

And that is basically what I’ve always said about speed cameras…thank you :stuck_out_tongue:

Its quite a long article but essentially, this old fella was nicked for warning other motorists that they were approaching a speed trap.

Fair enough, it’s an offence. Must have been a slow news day.

(AA patrolmen salute, anyone?)

It has just been mass debated with Jeremy Whine on BBC Radio 2

Is it always the same daft ■■■■■ that phones in telling us how speed kills children etc?

She started giving it loads about how he shouldn’t be warning them as it’s the same as warning a bank robber the police are coming■■?

Honestly, with ■■■■■■■■ like that in the country, we’ve got no chance.

I 50% agree with warning other motorists and 50% don’t agree with it…the reason is if you warn someone of a camera, they do slow down to the correct speed, which is good…but you just know that as soon as they pass the camera, they’ll speed right back up again…kind of a lost cause really.

You’ve seen me on the way to work in the early hours of the morning then? :stuck_out_tongue: Slow to 40, slow to 30 for two cameras and 60 or more the rest of the way.

Not at all…I only do short distance work and the agency don’t pay me enough to drive through the valley of death :stuck_out_tongue:

the a14 dogs were out today aswell but only one of em… now the a14 is mentioned on the docks website about how well it flows and its saftey record etc, so how come sometimes they is a van, then a mile past that another ■■■■■■ :imp: its ■■■ all todo with saftey just the webbed force extracting money out of drivers… and they only seem to be between the dock and stowemarket…

So let me get this straight… if I flash my lights at another truck driver going in the opposite direction, regardless of whether he’s speeding or not, and there happens to be a speed camera further up the road in his direction of travel, I’m supposed to be obstructing justice?

So if I see a mate, or someone who I think is a mate but may turn out not to be a mate (just another truck driver) I am not allowed to acknowledge him?

I’m sort of confused but I suspect I know that answer…

According to Radio 4 today this blokes mistake was representing himself. A good lawyer (if that exists :unamused: ) would just have pointed out to the court that in 2005 a similar case was dismissed as the defendant could not have known that the people he warned were breaking the speed limit.

The best thing he could do is get a lawyer and appeal the decision.

I always flash to warn of the taxmen in uniform and hope everyone on here who isnt so far up there own arse that they think they have never broken a speed limit (even accidentaly :unamused: ) would do the same.

It is well documented that some police forces will position mobile cameras just to catch out trucks.

There was one just towards the end of last year at the bottom of Birdlip hill, Gloucester on the first bridge over the dual carriageway, when you are still going downhill after 5 miles of braking (measured it) including 1 downhill stop at the roundabout. At that point your just glad to let the brakes off to cool them enough to slow down for the M5 junction 2 miles down the road . I sweated for 2 weeks after that one but heard nothing :imp:

Anyway ther’ye hiding the mobile scameras now by putting them in blue vans and horse boxes so I feel is time to invest in a detector.

A schoolboy error that.

A good lawyer (if that exists :unamused: )

I’ve heard this fella is “not bad”

TBH, he got what he deserved, the speed limit is the speed limit.
People always moan about speed cameras, “it was 3am and it was quiet and I was only doing 38 in a 30” etc etc.
Break the speed limit=get punished=simples!!
And yes, I have been done for speeding, my fault pure and simple.

Exactly, I quite often flash mates, or people driving trucks quite similar to a mates, who turn out not to be my mate after all. But if I wait until I can actually see the driver, it’ll be too late to flash my lights, they’ll have already gone passed. I think I’ll just continue flashing to mates, or people I think are mates, before I get any more confused

For which you could be nicked whether there is a speed camera about or not. There is only one legal reason to flash your lights and seeing a mate isn’t it, so if they want to nick you they can. :imp: :stuck_out_tongue:

i cant understand what the crime is here? all he did was warn mororists not to break the law. if told a bank robber to cease his errant ways would i be guilty as well?
