Wanted - 1980's SK mercedes tractor

Looks great, very original, nice to see it in demo colours too. Well done.

Will you be taking it to the Retro truck show at Gaydon in September? Its an ideal truck to take. Let me know if you need an entry form.

What a find, I am rather fond of a Merc as you can probably guess

I’m no fan of the 1628 usually, they’re a bit pedestrian for my liking, but that’s a stunning thing, I love the pics of the dash and can imagine the feel and satisfying clunk from the dashboard switches, those old Mercs felt as if they’d been carved out of a FGB lump of solid steel

Well done on that mate - think you ‘dropped double-six’ there to find it, and it looks grand now!!

hi,
for me,sk merc’s are a road transport icon.i drove many, including early eps 1635’s,in my experience all the v8’s were bombproof.i have promised myself a g cab 1748 for a long time now.though they do take alot of finding these days.i look forward to seeing this one out and about.
regards andrew.

Wow, classic motor and what a great find. Up there with the recent barn full full of F88s / 89s found and imported back from the Canaries!

I remember a Theatre / Film / TV transport company called Radcliffes. Their yard was just down the road from where I used to live. They had a whole fleet of those, the SK`s and the older box type cabs. Looked good in their quite distinct livery.

Original Livery design we based this one on.

You can’t beat the old SK, far superior to the new rubbish that Mercedes churn out. I’m biased though, as I drove many different models during the 80s and 90s, from a 2025 up to the last one I drove a 1850. The only thing that really let them down was the useless EPS box. Somebody told me that P&O bought up any manual gearboxes to replace in their fleet.
