Hi I’m thinking of doing my C and then C/E licence I really wanna drive but am I completely nuts to give up a easy secure 24k job to chase what I want to do? I hate my job but it’s 35 hrs a week and so easy I just gotta turn up. Really hard decision I don’t want to put family in a bad position. What’s it like out there for you guys. This is just a honest appraisal of the situation.
You wont be earning 24k to start off, maybe 12k, unless your lucky enough to find a fulltime job straight away,
Why not do a bit of casual driving and keep your full time job? That way you get the best of both worlds!

Yeah sounds like a plan, should have done this year’s ago. Hopefully I can pass tests and get the odd shift at weekends hell I would work for free to get experience.

sounds like a good job!
what do you do at the moment?
Can’t really say mate. But it’s boring and its a very secure place and you don’t see any daylight at all ever in there. Really need a change get out and about.

If I was you stay put as not many jobs about too many drivers chasing to few jobs
But I would look at doing your licence as we will at some point in the future be in a better position then you maybe able to use it
As has been said you can do some casual driving every other weekend to see if you really do like it & if the family can cope with it
ATM the average wage is £7.00 for C/E ( no that not a typing error some are paying less )
Depends where you live as well for jobs & training also depends when you passed your car test as weather you have to do the initial dcpc or the periodic dcpc which is another expense
Have a good look round the site before you decide
Please avoid Brokers when booking
A read of this may help to get a feel of the wages
Thanks guys think that’s real sound advice, I’m going to get licences sorted and try to get bits and bobs of experience. I passed test 94 if that makes any difference. Hopefully things will pick up in the future and I can get a job then.
Yes, I would look at this in the longer term. It’s very tough out there at the moment, but eventually we will come out of recession and when we do then you will be able to find work reasonably easily.
Long term plan it is. Already bought theory cd and started learning that side of things. It feels good just to start out on a plan to change.

you already have catC1 and have full cpc because of “grandfather rights” if you passed your car test before 1997 which you did, so as soon as you have had a medical and applied for a provisional cat C you can start straight in on cat C training and test.
What no theory tests?

Yep ypu still have to do theory & HPT test just not initial dcpc
This training you have to do the 35 hours over 5 years. How much does it cost if you have to pay for it yourself?
I’d never put anyone off doing the job because it can be good sometimes, but dont think it will be an easy ride, you’ll be under constant pressure to get the job done, extremely tight deadlines are the norm and turning up late is simply not an option, if you like your sleep and dont do getting up early ie 4am ish its not for you.
Try and find a firm that are relaxed about the rules, you’ll learn far more far quicker than working for those that are straight down the line.

Upto £100 per 7 hrs or there abouts can be a bit cheaper but can also be a bit more depends what you do
