So if I pass my tests and don’t get a job for 10 years I would have to sit that before driving again? You don’t lose your licence do you?

Nope you dont lose your licence you will just have to do the dcpc before you drive commercially
Depends on age as if when you reach the age of 40 every 5 years you will have to have a medical to re new your licence

As animal rightly says, your licence remains valid for non-commercial driving if your DCPC expires. To drive commercially after your DCPC rights have expired, you need to complete 35 hours of periodic DCPC training to re-acquire your DCPC. You may have to wait until you receive your Driver Qualification Card before driving commercially, but this is issued automatically when your last chunk of periodic training is uploaded.
No driver has to retake the initial DCPC tests. For drivers with ‘acquired rights’ to initial DCPC, including those who got LGV initial DCPC via the C1 category granted with a pre-1997 car test, they never have to take the initial DCPC tests and, indeed, are not allowed to take those tests.
In other words, you cannot reacquire expired DCPC by taking Module 2 theory and Module 4 practical tests (at least this is my reading of the regulations).

you already have catC1 and have full cpc because of “grandfather rights” if you passed your car test before 1997 which you did, so as soon as you have had a medical and applied for a provisional cat C you can start straight in on cat C training and test.

What no theory tests?
Theory and hazard simulator are all part of cat C

This training you have to do the 35 hours over 5 years.
In your case (and mine) you don’t have five years to do the 35 hours training. You have to have it all done by 2014 but I’m not sure what date in 2014. I think this is correct but am not 100% sure as I am new to this too. Maybe someone smarter than me can clarify this.

LGV drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic training by 9 September 2014 to obtain a Driver Qualification Card allowing them to drive goods vehicles over 3.5t commercially.
PCV drivers must complete 35 hours of periodic training by 9 September 2013 to obtain a Driver Qualification Card allowing them to drive vehicles with 9 or more passenger seats commercially.
Drivers with both LGV and PCV DCPC only have to do one set of 35 hours periodic training every five years.

I don’t know about the dcpc but you’re right about the practical test as that can’t be taken by a full licence holder.
