Wannabe driver!

Hi Guys

Not specific to this post but regarding Medicals - Brook Medical Centre in Stoke on Trent are still doing HGV Medicals at £30 !!! Got to be bargain of the year, My own doc charges £110 - but they do have a radio to listen to in the waiting room

Details for brook are on the list of surgerys, number still same as on original post (2007)

Note: When I rang to book I was told initially I would have to go on waiting list, I said okay, then went from 5 weeks, to 2 weeks and then 3 days in one fell swoop.

Hope this helps

c u work for aldi have you asked them if they would give you job if you passed are they willing to pay for your test say with some sort of offer to stay with them for set period of time after that offer to go out for free for a day to get feel for job although i dont encourge that cos they will take the ■■■■ free labour and all that long time since i done it i went staight to c1 at 21 and got a job straight away on old bangers nowadays with all the cost and tests its a lot of money out of your pocket if you dont like it better and cheaper to do 1 week free than spend a couple of grand for somthin you dont like

Hi all. New member here, just got the medical done, waiting on my license coming back to get on with the Theory and HP. Only 23 wanted an honest opinion of money expectations and whether businesses will take on a new young driver. As soon as I pass the CAT C want to get straight in for the C+E.

Welcome.

23 isn’t too young. Provided you are happy to go out door knocking, something will come along.

At worst you will sit on your licence for 2 years until reaching that magic 25.

Going straight from C to CE is good if you can afford it as it will keep your mind in the right frame and you stay in training mode without picking up bad habits.

Best of luck with your theory tests and going on to your practical training and test(s).

Well I’m poised and ready to contact every road haulage company in Northern Ireland, as soon as I get the C under my belt. I’m hoping that there is some company that will give me a break, I’m trying not to set my hopes too high but driving is one thing I love to do, even if it changes to working flat to the mat. let’s face it I can’t work in Poundstretcher as a Sales Manager forever !!!

Wanted to pick an experienced truckers brain about what way a novice driver should go about trying to source work ■■

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I’m from Northern Ireland not the UK so work is even harder to find

The principles are still the same no matter whether you are from the Midlands or the Outer Hebrides.

Take your gear with you in the boot of your car and knock every door that has a lorry. You will be the one that turns up when the regular guy has rung in sick.

Get in touch with all the big haulage companies in your area too. Not everyone advertises when they have a vacancy.

Best of luck.

Just passed my Cat C, absolutely over the moon!

Well done! Its such a relief when they say those magic words! Are you doing the c+e or sticking with c?

Will do my C+E eventually but can’t afford it at the moment. Cost me £1954 to get my C lol :/.
I’ve got to go out and find work, which I, not sure how togo about doing as I have a good job at the moment that I like. Dilemma!

A lot of money spent, time to claw that back, good luck on the road when you get on it
