Mortified. Taxi for 1. Bloody hell. Trust his kids uniform to be very similar to the Krankies in the grainy picture. Believe it or not we’ve actually been good friends ever since
hahahahaha!!! talk about foot in mouth.

Ah it was awful. It was one of those “uh huh hum, anyway, er, about the weather and potential for low level shear. I think we should, er not derate the engines on this take off huh hum. Yes. Mmm. Er, nice cup of tea this, er. Yes, Mmm” moments
Desypete, you might get some stick on here but your views are as valid as others, so you keep telling it as it is.

i was talking to a girl who works 37 hours a week, just doing basic office types of things like inputting date on a computer or printing off bills etc, its not rocket science any idiot can do it even a driver could do that job
it pays her 28k a year plus bonuses and 6 weeks holidays
A bog standard office admin job paying £28k basic? Do tell me where, my missus would be most interested!!! Try 13-16K as the going rate outside the London bubble. Her gaffers only on £26k.
I don’t know where you keep finding these people getting paid top dollar for menial jobs.
This whole idea that so many drivers seem to have, that everybody else in society is earning as much as or more than drivers, whilst only working a basic 40, book off, forget about work and go home everynight & sit with the family around the dinner table is utter deluded fantasy.

i was talking to a girl who works 37 hours a week,
Doesn’t mean it’s true though
I was talking to a dog walker who was telling me he earns 50k a year. 10 regular dogs + casuals
So if we all stick to a minimum £11 p.h. day rate then that would send a huge message to the industry.Further more here’s an example of the crap WE have to put up with, was asked by an agency last Friday to do a weeks work for them as they were desperate,it was multi drop class 1 work I said “no thanks”,but they rang me back and then said it was shunting from depot to one other client 2 drops maximum,I found out and they would pay me the £11 p.h. I wanted.I gave in and excepted,I then called up another Agency to say that I couldn’t work Wednesday/Thursday this week as I have a full weeks work lined up.I turned up to the really desperate clients property this morning after driving 45 mins to be told I am not needed, and they were not sure about the rest of the week.
I was fuming when I got home and decided to get on the blower to find some more work.I found out that the Wed/Thur shift had gone,so on to more agencies and to add insult to injury they want me to go on 4-6 hour assessment an hour away for nothing. Now I ask you is that fair,“why do we put up with that crap”?.
Sorry but unless something is done soon I am afraid I will be looking for something else.We make it difficult,us.
If we don’t stand together then we have given up and therefore cant complain when it gets a lot worse as I think it will. This site has one thing in common most of us work in the driving industry, whats the point in having these valuable boards if we don’t stand up and fight for this industry.I don’t want to hear drivers have no back bone or they will stab you in the back because that’s just a cop out,the drivers are well aware of whats happening and they are probably as sick of it as what I am.
If I give this industry up because of the conditions then once I find somewhere else,if I’m lucky enough then it wont belong before the greedy people come and do the same thing. The reason this happens is because we let it,that’s all.
your working for the wrong agencies then as every one of my guys are paid for inductions providing they pass. yes I lose money but I wouldn’t do an assessment free so why should anyone else?
haven’t came across a good one except back in the eighties, but employers are just the same.
trouble is I say it as it is but when you have a load and there are loads of micky mouse ones running about scraping any drop of work they can find then the rates and pay only go 1 way which is down.
So we put up with that, saw a thread about someone here working on a 3% margin, now you have to be a massive logistics company churning over millions of pounds to get a good return on 3%,the way this is achieved is to pay the drivers dreadfully,so that’s spend £100 to make £3,but as I said before I think I read we created 17 new billionaires last year.Well done us those will be the ones who come for your house if you cant keep up the payments. We are clever.
Not all agencies are bad. Keep looking. I average over £11ph never out past 6pm and normally a min weeks booking at a time. Currently booked untill at least september.
Matt that’s superb news,I’m glad you have a decent employer,I can only think you might be working in the golden triangle Magna Park, Daventry,Lutterworth area.I have friends both north and south they all tell me its very quite at the moment they are thinking of the Midlands area because there seems to be a demand, bit of a bummer though having to move from your loved ones to work. But yeah its very quite for this time of year.So best of luck Matt
Actually i live in devon. Work around the plymouth area so live by the moors with the sea on the doorstep. Plenty of work this way paying well if look in the right places
you paint a lovely picture Matt.well done mate
why hasn’t someone called matt for being happy with his lot as per other threads on here?
the fella has gone out found a decent employer/agency and is happy no doubt he will be slated as an arse kisser within half an hour
when in all truth he has probably got off his arse gone out and found something suitable maybe he took and passed an assessment? maybe he gave up 4 hours of his time to get onto the rates and company he wanted?
Wonder why you mentioned it?.The guy is obviously happy and getting the £11+p.h.I think its brilliant.
When you can ship in drivers from across the EU without any restriction, drivers that will happly work for £7.50 an hour ,wages will never rise … Get the country out of the EU and we mite stand a chance off earning a decent crust !!!
poddy any chance you can name the companies that pay this? or the rdc canteen / waiting room you first heard/told it?
£11 an hour sound’s great but aint it time too get realistic?
if every driver got paid that rate then your boss has too increase his rates too his customers to cover the pay rise, his customer has too increase the price of the goods they sell too there customer to cover the increase in transport cost’s, then next customer has too increase the price on the goods too pay for them and who will at the end of the day pay for all the increases?
