Wages

Wonder why they are looking for drivers ■■

i believe you take what you can get down in that neck of the woods, i doubt many companies pay more than that in the SW

yeah that is true, it just annoys me that “production assistants” are on £7.50 per hour.
This industry needs to pay a wage that represents the true nature of the job and responsibilities that go with it.
Driving agencies are advertising from £10 p/hr down hear, so full time jobs should be at least the same.

dont you believe it. even class 2 work at travis perkins offers more than that round this way… and i turned that down for better pay.

the fact its advertised on the jobcentre says it all.

one of my most hated forms of advertising as 99% of the time you get the ‘oh if i apply for this job that keeps my dole for another week’ brigade.

Sat here waiting to unload and killing time on the internet, cant believe that in 2014 some one is payiny so little in the UK,

Salary7.60 - 7.90 per hour
auto enrolment pension,

i was on more than that 22 years ago working for Bowkers of Blackburn/Preston

Chris

30p an hour more for class 1…gonna take a few hrs to get the grand it cost to get your class one back!

That’s an insult to everyone in the transport industry. How do they expect to get someone who has spent a few grand to get trained when they are paying a pittance. These are the kind of outfit that are keeping this industry in the dark ages. We need to stand up against this nonsense fellas and avoid these companies like the plague. I hope they get what they deserve.

£7 p.h and surfing every day ,bit like my mate ,moved, low ish wages ,but gets too stroll along the sea front ,pint every night ,quality of life

The company will get a national rate for the work & pay west country money to the drivers. That’s the way it is down there not enough jobs & to many people chasing them. Having said that this is the first time I’ve ever heard of Westfields advertising for drivers, but I moved away over 20years ago.

If i was young ,free and single ,yeh why not,

Sad thing is, £7.60-£7.90 isn’t actually that shocking these days.

Isn’t that not far off the basic rate at Stobarts?

Its an example of lots of companies using the economy and fuel prices as an excuse to pay to pay slave labour. They say they can’t afford to pay more yet these same companies will spend tens of thousands on a brand you Merc Actros or Volvo FH yet still pay the driver a pittance.
But ive had worse than £7.90 p/h. I passed my class 1 three years ago and no one would give me a chance as I had no experience. I ended up having to take the first company who offered me a chance. For the pricey sum of £7.02 p/h! I do agency now and will not work for less than £11 p/h nights.

No ,it was posted up on a thread on here recently that day rate is £10.10 p.h ,there was a picture of the flyer the company had put up at there depots with this rate on it .

Thats ridiculous this is what’s on offer in my neck of the woods

christ i’d rip your arm of for that. i work in a technical role atm and im paid 3k a year less than that… :frowning:

26k for a bit of driving and a bit of handball… and no stress of explaining to multiple customers a day why the service they pay for will never work… luxury

That’s actually not bad money Berty

Tell me about it its not bad at all for class 2 work… iv put in a sneaky application

.

Yep, that’s the truth, but how many off those drivers will moan like buggery if they got offered a Renault Premium/85 Daf/FM etc, Instead off the high spec style Trucks, but got offered a couple of quid an hour more :unamused: Plenty is the answer

Maybe you have to look at the £7.02 ph job as the key that got you something better, and pleased to see that it did.

Norfolk is just the same for wages, but if you tramp, you might aswell put £30 petrol in the car and head inland and earn an extra £100 or more a week, no brainer for me

Only that by the time you get knocked off, after a couple off hours loading and messing about with the usual “can you just do” sort off stuff, you’d be too tired to enjoy your pint, and I think that falling asleep on your surf board wont pull any beach babes. This is a haulage co, not a logistics operation

Your sentiment is fair, put they’ll just go and recruit in East Europe, stating that no one’s willing to do the job in this country. Bit like Greencore, the infamous sandwich makers :unamused:
