our shunters are on 30k 48 hrs a week
I actually wouldn’t be suprised at this. I remember when Tesco magor opened up, there was stupid amounts of money to be earned by working your rest week, being one of the blue eyes and getting decent runs etc.
Our shunters at asda are on nothing like this, but in our place shunters tend to be the blokes too lazy to go up the road. shunting tends to be either all out, rushed off your feet or nothing happening at all, when you’ll find them sat watching TV in the mess room.
They only require you to have a standard C+E license, but they do like you to be good at reversing. But then those terberg shunts are a doddle, with hyper power assisted steering, a steering lock like a taxi etc
If it’s the shunters at Tilbury… they should be paying US for the number of times they break our trailers!
Tesco shunters at Peterborough are on £30k basic (nights) + O/T, work it out, they only have to do 10 hours a week o/t to get an extra £5k a year, they do get close to £40k at peterborough, and the lads at Thurrock are on an old working contract so yes its possible
I worked as a order picker in tesco,s (wincantons)
I got shift allowance,
and on a Sunday i was on double time
even if it was my normal working day (any 5 from 7)
therefor i got £17.00 p/h Sunday
and usually tried to get 12hr days
= £204 for 1 day.
Earned £28,000 9 years ago working in the warehouse.
(now they only use agency,
The union got us such a good deal that they will never recruit permanent staff ever again, too costly.
“cut their nose of to spite face” springs to mind)
If the managers didnt talk to me like
i,m a piece of dirt.
Might have been in a millionaire
Left to go driving
now on just over 50% of my wages 9 years ago.(£17,00)
But still get treated like dirt
Shunters were on about £40,000
thats why 10 years down the line
its still the same lads doing the same job.

Lankytim:
On another forum I frequent a thread has been started about driving an LGV and how much we get paid e.t.c. An HGV driver on the forum has said that at Tesco Thurrock DC the shunters are on 48K. The guy has no reason not tell the truth although 48K does seem alot!Does anybody here know if this 48k lark is for real?
well this time next week their will be no trucks on the road we will all be shunters,NOT
There aresome well paid jobs out there, this could be one of them… I thought they were all on £1000 per week in London…well thats what they tell you.

I didnt believe it but the guy was adamant. Stranger things have happened!
So it can be said that earning £48k as a shunter is possible, at the right place and doing the right hours?
