Wages for shunters

The shunters working for tesco in dunabate Ireland are on a basic of 52000 euros for 4 / 12 hours shift they also get the daily lunch money tax free 18 euro a day the same as the drivers now that’s the one’s on the tesco contact that’s working there and there’s a good few DHL run it now Stobart lost it last year

On another forum I frequent a thread has been started about driving an LGV and how much we get paid e.t.c. An HGV driver on the forum has said that at Tesco Thurrock DC the shunters are on 48K. The guy has no reason not tell the truth although 48K does seem alot!

Does anybody here know if this 48k lark is for real?

If it is I’ll do it.

£48K. They must be on trip money.

Its all proper Terberg shunter equipment, no H reg Volvo tractor units with smashed lights so a nice set up.

Tescos insist that shunter drivers have C+E licences and a few years experience, although im sure you dont need a full LGV1 licence to drive a shunter, just a shunter licence for insurance purposes.

The more I think about the money the more I cant believe it, but it could be true I guess…

The ones who work regular weekends and permanent nights could do it,
they also get a lot of rostered weeks off, which they can work as overtime if they want, thats how it was a Middlewich anyway, can’t see it being much different.

Sounds about right to me used to work for Royal Mail out of East London and our top earning shifts were in the region of £40k.

In their dreams if that was the case everyone would be shunting not driving!!
Ask for proof and I bet you dont get any!

i quite agree also they must be at work every avalible hour for maximum shifts cos 48k isnt going to be a basic.

Correct

Some sort of internal training on a purpose built shunter or artic unit that satisfies the insurers is enough in most cases.

someone is pulling your chain

BIG TIME

I’m paid for 50,but i only do 40 so it makes my hourlr rate very good.
But knowhere near £40k

377 days per year to get about £48K - hmmm… need to pass a new law - a year now needs to be 377 days    - blast :exclamation: :exclamation: - it don’t conform to the WTD

Shunting is the hardest, dirtiest, soul destroying job going, anyone earning 48k deserves it. I speak from experience, it was one of my 1st jobs in road transport in the late sixties.

Tiger.

Dont tell the Goole RDC shunters, who are on 25k pa 4 on 4 off (so I have been told)

Where i do my agency work one shunter does 6 days a week every week.
You do 11 hours and get paid for 12. With allowance etc you get about £144 a shift. 6 x £144 = £864.
Times this by 52 = £45k ish.
Not bad wages but you have no life and im not sure about working time directive as it doesnt seem to matter in this depot.

I was on a bit more than that at Goole RDC. It was 48hrs (4x12hrs) but you had an hour of breaks a night so only worked 44hrs.

£28,500 for 4 on, 4 off on nights. If I worked an extra shift, I got paid £150. So you could do 5 on, three off and that’d add £7,800 a year or do 5 on, 2 off and that’s add £15600 a year so quite possible to do £40k if that’s how they’re working it.

The job is good whilst it’s busy but really bad when it’s not. It doesn’t help that the eco-stazi set the tugs up to automatically shut off after a few minutes idling so you can’t leave the radio or heater on.

i shunt for great bear… 48k?..my arse!
