So in theory I could be fined:
Night out on Thursday night, pulled in to Becconsfield, did my paperwork, pulled the card and went to find dinner. Paid for the parking on the way in. Surely I should have paid for the parking then pulled the card!

That’s correct, even thinking about work is classed as duty time now. If you open the yard gates to park your car, then you are on company property, it must be work
So am I not allowed to get the hose pipe out and wash the truck on my 45? I thought it was 45 minutes free time to rest after sitting in the thing all morning I like to stretch my legs and get out off it hope vosa don’t drive past our yard I’ve [zb] it!

Any private car driven on company premises must be fitted with a tacho and all time spent driving it while on said premises counts as driving time.
All time spent watching the tele in a parked truck counts as break but plugging in the lead or clipping the wires to the battery counts as other work as does eating food in a parked truck using a knife and fork but eating sandwiches without using a knife and fork counts as break.
Drivers are warned that while reading a newspaper in a parked truck counts as break doing so could be viewed as other work if the driver seems and/or is deemed to be reading delivery notes at the same time.
All parked trucks containing a driver on break or rest must have chalk marks clearly written on the ground around all wheels in contact with the ground the process being counted as other work as long as the chalk is in the driver’s hand.

I got fined last year for doing a wee. Not normally a problem but because I drank the drink during duty time relieving oneself of the offending liquid later is seen as other work. So now if I need a pee in the night I resart my break just to be on the safe side.
Surely you restart your REST

I was once told that you cannot read headlight, commercial motor or motor transport in a lorry as that is classed as work. I was doing my CPC at the time and using David Lowes book, the Comic was just my way to relax. This came from the union rep of a once famous tanker company
I was chatting to another driver a few nights ago and he informed me that a guy from his firm got pulled and they found nothing wrong with his tachos or his wagon, so they fined him for leaving his spare pair of glasses at home.
a driver told me on friday i was wrong putting straps on my rope hooks and had to be fastened to chassis rails.he said he was told by vosa rope hooks are for sheet ropes only.this job just gets worse.

If rope hooks are not designed to take the pressure/strain that a strap imposes on them then it is obviously unwise/unsafe to use them for that purpose

It has been covered but any part of a trailer used to anchor ie rope chain strap twist locks have to be rated so rope hoos can only be used if rated to withstand x amount of force on them.
Sounds daft since we use to rope and sheet everything and when a hook snapped we just welded another one on

I use a remote control to open the barrier at our yard. Does that mean I have to make a manual entry from the moment I press the button to get in to the moment I press it to get out, or is it when my front wheels cross the line?
Also a little known fact but all those people at the Trucknet do last night will have to do a manual entry as sitting round moaning is considered as other work
The VOSA guys at Risby on the A14 are a nice bunch of guys - they are only interested in law breakers - have had many a chat with them at Risby’s diner -
Sounds like BS to me too - often see a foreigner chained up in the compound but very rarely UK trucks -
cheers
Steve

Absolute bollox and rubbish.I do however predict at least two pages of stuff bearing absolutely no relation whatsoever to the OP.
What prediction +1

Just a knob seeing how gullible peeps are.
Just about sums it up
As said before on these forums in most cases it is how you treat them and i myself have got on well with most of them including the ones at risby as this is local to me but i know for a fact of a driver who had stopped for a break when risby was shut at the start of the said weighbridge and when he had had his drink and sandwich he walked round and wiped his back lights a vosa car was approuching to open weighbridge at the time saw him wipe his lights checked what mode he was on then done him.I will not name the vosa man but there is one the one who done this man trying to make a name for himself and all he is doing is causing a lot of bad feeling and getting every body against vosa even his fellow workers have not got a good word for him but the rest are fine just goes to show you always get one a**hole in all walks of life

Don’t generalise Luke - it’s only other work if they are moaning about work or work related topics
However, based on the same thinking, anyone who donated anything at the do should be able to reclaim the tax on the donated amounts although drinks are only tax deductible if you buy a round - this is classed as corporate entertainment and your boss should contribute too
From assets.dft.gov.uk/publications/d … port.pdf:-
“A break is any period in which a driver may not carry out driving or any other work and which is used exclusively for recuperation”.
Is reading Delivery Notes recuperation?
As regards the fine:-
From ukmotorists.com/motoring/Enf … alties.asp
"5.10

If time has been exceeded by more than 15 minutes and offence is current - unless valid justification is given, ie genuine traffic congestion or emergency
£60 Fixed Penalty
Section 96(2) & (11)(a) of the Transport Act 1968 as modified by Art 4(2) of the Drivers Hours ((Passenger and Goods Vehicles) Modifications Order 1971, SO-4"

I too use this modus operandi ! However as I get older & my bladder gets weaker & my prostate enlarges, I now need to pee roughly 17.5 times per night. So I have to keep restarting my break. Yes I’ve been stuck in strensham services since march last year.
I will do whot i want on break cus its my time. i like fastening curtains and find it relaxin. gentle exercise and theriputic good for sistem. self tip is exercise and i like walkin in and out of trailer to keep fit so whots wrong with that
