volvo fl10s.....

A few from HOWO’s site.

I had two or three of these over the years. I also rather liked them for some reason. They were a bit small, but at well over 6 ft tall I struggled in most of them anyway!

Heres one of them…

this one is still working for norfolk line, does anyone have any info on it?

I seem to remember one working out of southampton docks on containers when i used to go with my dad in the lorry about 15years ago and i used to quite like it, it was white with a red stripe that turned into red stars as it went up the cab.

Hiya… I had this thing for 6 years and thrashed the living life out of it(I hated it)but it would go from Chester to Aylesham in 6hours 10 mins fully layden.
to this day i dont know how it got from a-b so quickley when it seemed to be passed by everything under the sun.Going up windy hill it was down to 30 mph.
But it never seemed to break down.I did 675000klicks and it only had tyres/linings and front drums.I had a 3300 space cab DAF before this lump of crap.
maybe the roof extension version FL 12 was a better truck… it did look quite nice…little story…when i first got the fl i woke up wanting a pee all my gear was on the passanger seat and the drivers seat was tilted forward.QUICK DO SOMETHING so i peed in my bowl then i put the bowl on top of the telly rummaged around to open the drivers window.then looked for the bowl YES i’d knocked it off with my elbow and pee was running down into the passanger side floor well it would have been less trouble to have just peed in the sack.GOD I HATED THAT TRUCK.

I drove this day-cabbed :open_mouth: FL10 from Chessington to Tbilisi, Georgia, around 1996.

I went Dover-Calais, down through Switzerland (where the pic was taken), into Italy, Ancona-Patras, up through Greece into Bulgaria, and got the ferry across the Black Sea from Burgas to Poti then through the night under heavy armed guard to Tbilisi, where no doubt it remains to this day, re-fuelling aircraft.

It was projected to take ten days but ended up taking 21. I flew back via Moscow but my Russian visa had expired because of the delay and I was arrested and put in a detention centre with the other undesirables overnight, before being marched at gunpoint onto the London flight the next day

A few I posted on other threads

After a succession of MANs and an F.10 I had this FL10 for 3 years pulling IFF tanks and boxes out of West Bank (Ipswich)

S. John of Bedford ran two FL10 320s on IFF from 1988-1991

just a couple of the little FL!0s that we used to run, cracking little lorries and a big improvement on the F7.A lightweight unit that gave a good payload, and very comfy for day work and easy to heat for the occasional night out, only proplem was that some firms used to spec them for tramping rather than running a bigger driver friendly unit.Once overherd a driver asking his boss if when he got dressed in the morning did he do it bent double, when his boss answered “of course not” then the driver stated that he shouldnt have to either.
I Dont think that it would happen today although (call me old fashioned, and yes I still remember the homemade dogbox sleeper conversions on the british lorries before the superswedes became the norm. ) I do think that some of the larger mega space units seen on the road are now overspecked for the work that they do, I wouldnt fancy shunting a megaspace or a superspace on a Radnorshire farmyard !.

scania doctor:
Here’s one an ex employer had with a roof conversion ,not sure who done this conversion.

Hiya … That volvo looks quite good they did do a FL12.With the higer roof that would be a very very nice motor.BUT you would still
have a sore head as you kept butting(with the top of your head) the stupid quarter light at the top of the door when looking out reversing.
Well just looking out.

Parked in Taunton one night few of the lads, mixed fleet FLs & F10s, Had an argument about the heights of the inside of both, back from the bar tape measure out believe it or not both near enough the same from floor to roof. Couple of them still wouldnt have it even when the proof was there :exclamation:

OOps sorry repeating myself must be me age but it was a few months ago

This tractor was driven from new by the late Roy “Bull” Davies it is rumoured that Roy had a full set of Optics at the back of the cab for the isolated times he wasn’t parked up near a CIU club !! Roy could tell you where you could find the cheapest and best drams of whiskey throughout the UK no danger !!
