Can’t really see the issue here or in fact what its got to do with you. There could be a number of reasons, pride being one of them or it could be just a case of preferring to wash the lorry than spending the day with the wife shopping I know what I’d prefer!!
I can’t understand why there are so many people who are happy to knock someone for taking a bit of pride. In my book its admirable and obviously his own choice.
I cant help but feel a bit sorry for the driver in question…he comes in on his day off to wash his lorry and all he gets for his trouble is a slagging off on a public forum from a so called ’ workmate’…

+1
I didn’t “slag off” but workshop and the other drivers thought it a little odd…
…Is this expected of drivers, I mean do our superiors do this , ie do they clean their offices on a day off? What’s the difference?
He needs a hobby in my opinion. Too much of that carry on, and then it gets used against you before long. “why is your lorry such a state, so and so comes in and washes his, why can’t you”.
Used to work for a company that paid £25 extra per week for washing your lorry. Except there was never any time to do it, and when you got back the yard was all blocked up with trucks and you couldn’t get near the pressure washer.
Their solution “oh, we don’t mind you coming in Saturday to do it”. Yeah, cheers.
I still think trucks are a tool for a job, and don’t look particularly different dirty or clean (on the outside), but then I was never a fan of washing my car on the outside either. Got better things to do.
Suppose you did this, tripped over the hose and broke your wrist;
Could your employer wriggle out of any payments with “you were booked off and shouldn’tve been on-site?”

Plodding along in his 6 wheeler or using a jumped up trac -air loading [zb], he always has a moan, gives us lads on plant moving /ops a bad name. Have you seen his picture in the old timers?
A face for radio (radiohead) if i ever saw one, must of hit every branch of the ugly tree on the way down. Bet he does not get his feet wet on the holiday … Tide too scared to come in.
Me I’m a babe magnet and I will tell you somethimg you wont believe, but I was born ugly .
Just my opinion
And you have the eyesight of Stevie Wonder; Where in the op did I complain? I posted a fact and asked for opinions. Talking of plodding, I take it you’re one of professions ambassadors who can’t drive under 56mph?
DO you ,or do you not, post on a public forum tales about your fellow workers?
As for 56 mph I haven’t a clue what speed i’m doing generally, I go by my revs as i have pulled the fuse…
You must drive an old motor cos if you pull the fuse on any motor over a 56 plate then you disable the tacho and on dafs and renaults it also disables your lights
