Using the internet whilst away

My other half has got me a netbook to take with me in the truck, have used it a few times where there has been wifi hotspots but was wondering what you guys use when there is no wifi around, have seen the dongles for orange, vodaphone etc and wondered which was the best value (certainly don,t want to spend more than a tenner a month) and also the best coverage.

Cheers

Get a 3 dongle, best reception and they do some good deals on PAYG for £10 - £15. you can get contract with lots of data download for a tenner too.

Tesco’s doing a “3” dongle for £29.97, comes pre-loaded with £30 of credit (3gb) that is valid for 3 months…

I got a 3 dongle from currys deal is/was £15 a month for 15gb which I get nowhere near in use terms.

I have an orange phone contract, I upgraded it to unlimited internet (£5) and I use that to get on the internet.

On my laptop I have bluetooth, but on my old 1 I used to just plug the usb lead in, it also charges the phone that way.

Cheapest way I know of gettin’ on t’internet

I use a 3 dongle its about a tenner a month its got about 15gb but i get nowhere near that and i have never not got signal

I got the same package, great for watching Iplayer etc when you cant get a telly reception, sometimes I get close to the 15 gig limit with heavy watching, best package for the money.

I got a 3 portable WiFi hotspot recently, much faster than the dongles I’ve found. Get up to 4mb/s at most places and brilliant reception.

HTC phones do that, create a hotspot for your wifi to connect to.

I’ve found the little box very handy, I’ve got it wired up permanently in the car off the battery and it’ll last all day at work without recharging.
Good 15m range on it too.

I call the network “FreePorn” and I get a popup message every time someone tries to connect to it, great fun getting the message then looking round and trying to work out who the pervert is!

Lol, it’s me, I must follow you around all bloody day, no wonder I don’t get any work done

i use a 3 dongle and pay £9.50 a month on contract and as another poster said i very rarely do not get a signal.

Got a 3 Dongle does what it says on t’ tin spend about £10 per month

On Vodafone, 3g/month which I manage to keep to, with mine & the wifes phone £9.95/month. 2 phones £16/month 150 mins 500 texts each. very few places do not get decent signal, happy with the deal I have.
PS started at £15/month, but when contract due to expire, along with phones, told them I was going to Virgin and better rates appeared.

Hombre, no wonder you are looking to hitch onto other peoples networks. Spain is a total rip off for mobile broadband. What i pay a tenner for here costs me 50 euro in Spain.

my only internet access is via
a 3 dongle i think its £15 pm full price (£8 to me)
never gone over
there was somewhere in the wild west of Scotland
i didnt get a signal

I too use a 3 personal hotspot on pay as you go, awesome tool so longs you don’t do anything big like long videos or downloads, if you just browse and chat it’s brilliant and yes signal is great

Just got a replacement 3 dongle after 1yr with the old one, same price 81pound for new dongle for 1yr or 12gb never used the last one up so this suits me fine .Got it at 3shop very helpfull.

I use the iphone 4 it has a built in wifi router and can run upto 5 laptops. The connection is very good and i can use it to watch/stream Tv on demand, great for the soaps and stuff
I use 3 as a provider on the one plan. £69 upfront for the phone and £35 per month for this i get 5000 3 to 3 minutes 5000 texts and 2000 any network minutes including landlines plus unlimited data. The phone itself is also a mini computer with a wicked camera and is a great piece of kit to carry around with you.

Its also got google maps on it which will pinpoint your location, great for planning your route or if you get lost

Sounds expensive but well worth it
