I thought the holidays are over?

if you use such a road that says unsuitable for hgv would that get you fined if so how much ?
As one of the many who has done livestock, you soon realise the reasoning for these signs. Mainly to prevent pointless access. Many farm access roads have such signs… if in doubt - get out and walk it.
One of the obvious signs is the tree and bush canopies… look for signs of regular high vehicle access… phone the delivery point… ask others. Or, you pay your money - you take your chances.

As long as the sign wasn’t circular with a red perimeter and a number inside, you’ll be OK as far as being fined goes.
It’s not a prohibition but on your head be it kind of thing.
I went a long way round to a place once to avoid a road that had the unsuitable sign at the top. At the place I saw hgv s were coming down the road that I’d avoided. So I went back that way and there was NOTHING wrong with it. Only bit was right at the end where you had to go single file to pass each other, but cars had to as well not just trucks, but no major issue.
On the other hand sometimes my sat nav says turn down a road that has the sign at the end and I look and think NOT A CHANCE!
I think if you gamble and get it wrong and get stuck then there’s only one person who looks like the idiot and one company paying any recovery costs.
I would only ever pass those signs if I knew the road was definitely ok. I’ve refused to continue to a delivery point before and got them to come to me in a van. On the phone I had the whole “we do have artics here” then when they met me it was “oh! I didn’t realise you meant that big, yeah you right you wouldn’t get down there would you”.

The one i dont like going down is the A262 through Gouldhurst, anyone who’s been down there and round past the church will know what i’m talking about. You can cause absolute chaos down there
Yep went down that a few months ago for the first time. Luckily there was nothing coming in the opposite direction on both bends.

It’s even better coming the other way UP Clay Hill in a Mk 1 Atkinson!

We use them on a daily basis, and i get a lot of [zb] signs, and shouts of 'you shouldn’t be down here in that thing, but i’m yet to get stuck down one.The one i dont like going down is the A262 through Gouldhurst, anyone who’s been down there and round past the church will know what i’m talking about. I was tempted to go that way a couple of months ago.ive never been along there before. I saw the signs and decided against it. I wasn’t sure what I’d be getting myself into
Assuming you are employed or agency and not an owner driver, and the sat navy our map says take the route then go for it.
It’s only your problem up until the point that you get stuck.
At that point it ceases to be your problem and becomes an issue for the transport manager, owner or whatever.
Sit in a field nearby, take in the view and watch events unfold.
The owner , manager or whoever have a duty of care to ensure that you are not going to go to an address that is not possible to get to in your truck.
Obviously you need to use your skill and experience to avoid getting jammed but an increasingly narrowing lane is not something you can reasonably foresee…
Enjoy !
This driver got stuck after passing unsuitable for hgv signs but was not prosecuted, due to the signs not being the red circle prohibitive etc. Villagers are now campaigning for a prohibition sign as the driver got away with it.
He took a wrong turn off the main road using paper maps it is understood. B&Q is actually on the main road just a little further down, but somehow he turned off half mile before his delivery point. A sat nav would never have even sent him this way either.

B&Q drivers get instructions for how to get to the goods in for each store. He must have passed the B&Q assuming he was doing the St Austell one to get there and there must have been somewhere to turn it round before getting stuck

What part of the A761 was this on then im local to it and use it all the time in an artic did you go near the low bridge.

No, it’s just an advisory. Batter in my friend, the wrecker will be along shortly to rescue you
there isnt a fine, the roads just unsuitable. you may get a rigid down it ok but an artic might come a cropper if it has real tight bends etc. its just an advisory sign. you takes your chance.
No-one would be fined…It only says unsuitable, not prohibited so crack on driver.

bit like this road i go down most weeks, has one of those unstuitable for hgv’s signs, touch wood never met anyone yet - and it wont be me reversing either…
It’s not to say that the consequences of going down an unsuitable road wouldn’t lead to one though.Should you cause some kind of incident you are going to have little in the way of defence.
I once had to deliver to a site on an unsuitable road, it was the first new house being built on the Tywyn Peninsula for over 100 years, miles from anywhere, and after I had tipped, the JCB had to follow me for three miles. lifting and pushing the back end of the trailer round the corners with the bucket.
i go down them roads an awful lot but my reason is the farm is down here, the locals do give me strange looks when they meet me i have had to go down one for 4 miles to a farm and the amount off times the bends caused me to stop and think was unbelievable
